Senior C++ Software Engineer – Hardware Systems

Barcelona, Spain | Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week

We’re looking for a strong hands-on C++ engineer who enjoys working close to real hardware and solving complex system-level problems.

You’ll join the Barcelona R&D; team of a large, established integral technology company, working on next-generation software for complex, high-performance hardware systems. The work sits across application software, hardware interfaces, drivers and high-speed data streaming, within a long-term and well-established R&D; programme.

This is particularly suited to an engineer who enjoys getting beneath the application layer, understanding how the complete system behaves, debugging across different layers, and solving performance and integration problems.

What You’ll Work On

- Develop Modern C++ (primarily C++17) software for complex instrumentation systems
- Build Windows applications that interface with devices, boards and specialised hardware
- Work with high-speed PCIe and Ethernet data streaming
- Debug across application code, drivers, interfaces and hardware behaviour
- Develop multithreaded, performance-sensitive software
- Support system integration, validation and testing within an R&D;/lab environment




- Work primarily in Windows, with some Linux development

✅ What We’re Looking For

- Strong commercial, hands-on Modern C++ experience, ideally C++17+
- Strong experience developing software in Windows environments
- Experience working close to hardware — instrumentation, devices, boards, embedded systems or similar
- Good understanding of multithreading, concurrency and performance optimisation
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across complex software/hardware systems
- Experience with PCIe, Ethernet, drivers, networking or high-throughput data systems would be particularly relevant

Contract & Long-Term Opportunity

- Initial 6-month freelance/autónomo contract, with strong extension potential and clear long-term scope
- 40 hours per week
- Hybrid working – typically 2 days per week onsite in Barcelona
- Long-term, ongoing R&D; programme rather than a short-term project
