IMB-CNM (CSIC), UAB Campus, Barcelona, Spain
Expected start date: 15 December 2026
Are you passionate about nanotechnology, biomedicine, and advanced therapies? We are looking for a highly motivated PhD Student to join an ambitious research project focused on developing next-generation magneto-opto-mechanical (MOM) nanodevices for immunomodulation.
Research Project
This PhD project aims to create innovative, wirelessly controlled nanodevices capable of remotely regulating macrophage behaviour for targeted treatment of:
• Colorectal cancer
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Other inflammatory diseases
The research will combine nanotechnology, materials science, photonics, magnetics and bioengineering to develop multifunctional nanodevices capable of mechanical and biochemical stimulation, with validation carried out in advanced 3D bioprinted disease models.
What You Will Do
Fabricate MOM nanodevices using advanced nanofabrication techniques (photolithography, colloidal lithography, etc.)
Develop optical and magnetic actuation systems for remote biomedical stimulation
Investigate macrophage polarization mechanisms through combined mechanical and biochemical cues
Evaluate therapeutic performance in state-of-the-art 3D bioprinted models
Who We Are Looking For
MSc in Nanoscience, Physics, Chemistry,
Biomedical Sciences, or related fields
Experience in nanofabrication and/or characterization techniques, or in vitro biological assays
Strong English communication and scientific writing skills
Team-oriented, proactive and motivated researchers with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
What We Offer
A fully funded PhD opportunity at IMB-CNM (CSIC), Spain's leading institute in Micro and Nano Technologies
Access to Spain's largest clean-room facilities and cutting-edge research infrastructures
Collaboration with leading experts from IBEC and IIB Sant Pau
Multidisciplinary training through the UAB PhD Programme
Opportunities to publish in high-impact journals and present at international conferences
An international, collaborative and highly innovative research environment
Research contract
Salary in accordance with qualifications and applicable CSIC employment conditions
