Scope

The Lunch Monitor is responsible for maintaining a safe, orderly, and enjoyable environment for students during lunch hours. This role encompasses supervising cafeteria discipline, promoting healthy eating habits, monitoring student cafeteria enrollment for payment purposes, and supervising students during designated patio/recess duties.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Supervision:

- Monitor student behavior during lunch periods to ensure a safe and respectful environment.

- Address and report any inappropriate behavior or conflicts among students to the appropriate authorities.

- Ensure that students adhere to school rules and policies during lunchtime.

- Provide supervision for students on the patio/playground area during a portion of the daily schedule.

- Safety and Security:





- Ensure that all safety procedures are followed in the lunch area.

- Assist in emergency situations by following established protocols and procedures.

- Conduct regular checks of the lunch area to ensure it is free from hazards.

- Assistance and Nutrition:

- Assist younger students or those with special needs in obtaining and opening their lunches.

- Help maintain orderly lines and assist with seating arrangements as needed.

- Provide support to cafeteria staff as needed, including assisting with meal distribution and clean-up.

- Monitor students to encourage and ensure the consumption of balanced meals.

- Attendance and Payment Tracking:

- Accurately track and record students who are not enrolled in the cafeteria program for payment processing.

- Cleanliness and Organization:

- Ensure that tables, chairs, and the surrounding area are cleaned after each lunch period.

- Assist students with the disposal of their trash and the proper use of recycling bins.

- Report any maintenance or cleaning issues to the appropriate personnel.

- Communication:

- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and other monitors to ensure a cohesive supervision strategy.

- Provide feedback to teachers and administrators regarding student behavior and any concerns that arise during lunchtime.

- Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.

- Staff Childcare Support:

- Provide supervision and engaging activities for staff children on staff working days when school is not in session.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Previous experience working with children in an educational or supervisory setting is preferred.

- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.

- Ability to stand for long periods and perform light physical activities.

- Proficiency in English; fluency in Spanish is preferred.

- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.





All prospective employees must be able to clear a background check as well as a sexual offenders clearance for all other countries where the candidate has lived or worked for a period of 3 months or more, over the last 5 years. As well as that, the verification process includes the cross-check of the requested references, which must cover the last five years of work.

Schedule and Benefits

Work schedule:

- Monday to Friday from 11:30 to 15:45 with a 20 minute lunch break

- Staff work and PD days (roughly 10 days in a year) from 8:45 to 16:00 with a 45 minute break
