We are looking for a Space Weather Engineer to work in Madrid, Spain.
About the mission For supporting the establishment and operation of a Space Weather Centre in Spain for affected stakeholders along with underpinning tools, capabilities and procedures required in order to deliver tailored high quality services to end users (operators of energy transmission systems, satellite operators, aviation sector, Ministry of Defence and others). The Centre is planned to operate in close cooperation with ESA's Space weather Service Network with the aim to establish a node that facilitates collaborative actions with network participants while moving progressively towards a structure with a clear operational dimension able to support the development and delivery of tailored space weather capabilities and services.
Tasks and activities The scope of work will include:
- Liaising with different end users to capture their requirements and producing the proper specification of user data products.
- Develop the algorithms to adapt/tailor the existing products to the end user community,
to generate the data products meeting the specification.
- Work in future operations services.
Skills and experience The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- University Degree or equivalent in the field of space engineering or relevant
- Demonstrated experience in space weather activities including SW algorithms and data services.
- Demonstrated experience with running/providing operational services (e.g. onboarding, help desk, tickets etc.)
- Understanding of types of SWE data products.
- Knowledge of SWE products (forecast / nowcast).
- Experience in SW development, oriented to the production of scientific data.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
