Job Description – Functional Analyst
Mission & Context
The Functional Analyst plays a key role in identifying business problems and translating business needs into well-defined, feasible functional solutions that can be developed and integrated into the enterprise production environment.
The role involves analyzing business requirements, evaluating solution alternatives (including cost–benefit considerations), and designing detailed functional solutions aligned with enterprise architecture, security standards, and strategic objectives. The Functional Analyst acts as a bridge between business stakeholders and IT delivery teams throughout the full solution lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation Phase
- Support the business analyst and client in shaping solution options and decision-making.
- Propose alternative, appropriate solutions aligned with enterprise architecture, strategy, and cost–benefit considerations.
- Ensure business stakeholders understand and adhere to enterprise rules and standards (architecture, security, compliance, etc.).
- Collaborate closely with architects to define and validate the solution architecture.
- Work in close alignment with the project manager, asset manager, and/or product owner.
- Act as a central point of coordination between the client, business analyst, and involved asset teams, providing a unified view towards the client and ensuring all IT parties clearly understand the business needs.
Elaboration Phase
- Translate business requirements into detailed functional requirements.
- Align with involved asset teams on functional responsibilities and scope.
- Design the application solution,
clearly identifying impacts across application components in line with the defined architecture.
- Coordinate with technical teams to specify functional and non-functional requirements for each component.
Construction Phase
- Follow up development and testing activities to ensure alignment with approved functional specifications.
- Define and validate technical components supported by multiple teams (e.g. integration layers, queues, security configurations).
- Support internal teams and external suppliers during development, integration, and assembly testing (I&AT;).
- Analyze and support resolution of defects identified during testing phases.
- Support release and deployment activities across environments (test, acceptance, production).
Post-Go-Live & Operations
- Provide ad hoc functional support to operational teams and helpdesks once the solution is live.
- Analyze production incidents and coordinate resolution with relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain and update functional documentation as needed.
Agile Way of Working
In an Agile environment, preparation, elaboration, and construction activities are iteratively combined and delivered in sprints.
The Functional Analyst is expected to demonstrate an Agile mindset, including:

Agile teams are cross-functional. While the Functional Analyst has a primary discipline, they are expected to contribute to other areas (e.g. testing, refinement, documentation) when this supports achieving sprint goals.
Required Experience & Knowledge
Experience
- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience as a Functional Analyst or similar role
Technical Knowledge
Mandatory
- Strong functional and technical understanding of enterprise IT systems
- Experience with functional analysis and documentation according to enterprise standards
Preferred
- Knowledge of Swagger / API definitions
- Hands-on experience in Agile/Scrum environments
Business Knowledge
Mandatory
- Knowledge of the banking domain and related technical environments
- Solid understanding of structured analysis methodologies
Language Requirements
The role requires sound knowledge of English, plus at least one local language:
- Dutch or
- French or
- English (with at least one additional local language)
