Your mission:
Responsibilities:
- Manage 2 teams of 5-7 engineers each:
- Care for their well being, support them in their career and personal growth and goals.
- Cultivate psychological safety and healthy group dynamics inside you team and toward other teams.
- Give your team members feedback early and candidly that helps them know where they stand.
- Be a role model of behaviours. Especially by receiving feedback as (or more) gracefully as you expect your engineers to receive yours.
- Be responsible for the goal setting process in your team and accountable for the outcomes. Make your team a team that keeps its promises and where every team member feels invested in them.
- Be able to provide technical leadership or advise on occasion and have an eye to detect early technical smells, over engineering and irrelevant work.
- Act as communications hub for your team:
- Help channel communication with stakeholders (product team, other engineering teams, the customer) in an orderly and sustainable way.
- Provide transparency of your team’s status to the rest of the company at the right level of abstraction and detail.
- Facilitate that your team members stay informed of relevant information of all types at the right level of abstraction. Ensure that the company communicates with them effectively.
- Make your job sustainable. Grow your engineers by delegating on them. Work yourself out of the job.
- Help make your team ever more effective by fostering a culture of continuous improvement and by having the data to prove it.
- Make or instigate contributions to company-wide engineering and management practices and culture.
Your profile:
You will thrive in this role if
- You have a strong software engineering background in a diverse set of teams and environments. You’ve experience thriving as well as struggling teams and know what “good” feels like and have traveled the path to get there.
