Design Technology & Mathematics Teacher - Paternity Leave Cover (DP)
We are looking for a Design Technology and Mathematics Teacher to cover a paternity leave, with an expected start date in mid-September 2026.
The initial cover period will be approximately 6 weeks, corresponding to the compulsory period of paternity leave. In addition, a further period of cover is expected from mid-January 2027, when the teacher is expected to take the remaining months of parental leave, approximately until April 2027.We offer a gross annual salary of €34,304, with the possibility of additional allowances and supplements.
Mission
To inspire students to develop strong critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills through the teaching of Mathematics and Design Technology.
In Mathematics, the teacher will help students develop a solid understanding of logical reasoning, quantitative analysis and mathematical modelling, encouraging them to apply mathematical concepts to complex and real-world situations.
In Design Technology, the teacher will promote creativity, innovation and practical problem-solving through the design process, encouraging students to develop thoughtful and effective solutions to real-world needs and contemporary challenges.
The role aims to cultivate intellectual curiosity, resilience and a growth mindset, empowering students to think critically, collaborate effectively and apply their knowledge confidently, creatively and responsibly in both local and general contexts.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging teaching plans for Design Technology and Mathematics, as well as other subjects or areas within the department when required.
- Participate actively in department meetings and collaborative planning sessions.
- Provide individualised guidance and constructive feedback, responding effectively to students’ diverse learning needs.
- Mentor and support students throughout the Extended Essay and Internal Assessment processes,
helping them establish objectives, conduct research and improve their final work.
- Participate in the standardisation and moderation of assessment tasks.
- Contribute to curriculum development, review and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the relevant International Baccalaureate (IB) programme requirements and guidelines.
- Establish effective communication with families regarding students’ academic progress and relevant aspects of their personal and educational development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Design Technology, Product Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, Architecture, Technology Education or a related discipline.
- Master’s Degree in Teacher Training for Secondary Education (Máster Universitario en Formación del Profesorado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato) or equivalent qualification.
- Previous teaching experience in Mathematics and/or Design Technology.
- English and Spanish at native or native-equivalent level.
- Strong ability to plan and deliver effective lessons and coherent teaching sequences.
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies and resources to different learning needs and student profiles.
- Knowledge and experience using a variety of teaching methodologies and educational resources.
- Ability to monitor and assess student progress and provide meaningful, constructive feedback.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire, motivate and maintain students’ engagement and participation.
- Ability to foster an inclusive,
respectful and collaborative learning environment.
- Strong teamwork skills, with a proactive approach to sharing knowledge, resources and best practices.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous teaching experience within International Baccalaureate programmes, particularly the Diploma Programme (DP) and/or Middle Years Programme (MYP).
- Experience teaching Mathematics and/or Design Technology within an IB educational environment.
- Intermediate proficiency in the use of Artificial Intelligence tools for productivity, lesson planning, content creation, communication, data analysis and administrative tasks.
- Experience using Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT and AI-powered features within Microsoft 365.
- Experience with digital educational and productivity platforms, including Microsoft 365, Teams, OneDrive, Toddle, ManageBac and Canva.
- Ability to use Artificial Intelligence tools responsibly and professionally, applying appropriate judgement and ensuring the protection of student data and confidentiality.
We Offer
- Contract: Temporary substitution contract to cover parental leave.
- Initial cover period: Approximately 6 weeks, corresponding to the compulsory period of parental leave following the birth.
- Expected start date: Mid-September 2026, approximately 14 September 2026, subject to the effective date of birth and commencement of the leave.
- Additional cover period: A further period of cover is expected from approximately mid-January 2027, when the teacher being replaced is expected to take the remaining period of parental leave, approximately until April 2027. Final dates will be subject to confirmation.
- Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:20 p.m.; Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Salary: 34.304,00 € with the possibility of additional allowances and supplements depending on the responsibilities and duties of the position.
