ALBA is the Spanish synchrotron light source, a large research infrastructure operating ten beamlines, complementary facilities, and an Electron Microscopy Center, this last in partnership with other institutions. Currently constructing multiple more beamlines, expanding the Electron Microscopy Center, and integrating advanced data analytics, it sums up a wide range of infrastructures geared toward finding solutions to societal challenges. Located in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain), it is funded by the Spanish Government (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) and the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya, Departament de Recerca i Universitats).

The synchrotron light produced by 3 GeV electrons is used by thousands of researchers to analyse and understand the properties and functionality of matter, spanning a wide variety of fields, such as catalytic research, health, energy production/storage, environmental research, communication technologies, or cultural heritage. For more information, you can take a look on our history watching this video: The idóneo candidate for this position is a mid-to-senior civil or construction engineer capable of assuming the role of Work Package Leader for various construction projects within the ALBA II program. This program features a 'New Buildings' project,



where each work package is dedicated to the construction of an individual building.

The Work Package

Leader will report directly to the Project Manager, an architect from the ALBA Engineering Division. Oversee and monitor civil engineering and construction projects from conceptual design through to commissioning, including the supervision of tendering processes when applicable. Supervise and manage subcontracted companies handling civil engineering and construction tasks.

Develop new technical installations for new beamlines, accelerators, and laboratories. Prepare and manage the financial budgets and project execution schedules assigned to the work group. Draft comprehensive project plans and technical specifications for construction-related calls for tenders (including extensions, renovations, and new constructions).

Provide support for facility maintenance operations in accordance with the building, asset, and technical installation maintenance plans. Support the design, maintenance, and operation of the various industrial control systems already installed at the Synchrotron facility. Acquire deep technical knowledge of existing systems (HVAC, compressed air, and de-ionized water cooling systems)



and develop the capability to perform failure diagnostics The requirements for participation must be met on the date of the deadline for the submission of applications and will be accredited by means of the CV attached to it, without prejudice to the power of the selection body to require the contribution of the originals of the certifications accrediting the qualifications, training and work experience invoked in the CV.

The successful candidate must hold a bachelor degree in either Civil Engineering, Building Engineering o Construction Management, S structural Engineering or equivalent. It is required to demonstrate a minimum of 3 years experience working on civil engineering and/or construction projects. As a first phase, an analysis of the curriculum will be carried out (assessment of previous experience and / or scientific history, degree, training and other professional information relevant to the position).

Career breaks or variations in the chronological order of CVs will be regarded as an evolution of a career, and consequently, as a contribution to the professional development. To hold a master degree related to civil engineering, building engineering or construction management – up to 10 pts. General training/experience as a civil engineer/construction manager/construction engineer– up to 15 pts.

Training/experience on drafting technical prescription sheets – up to 5 pts. Training on design of technical installations – up to 5 pts. English language level – up to 5 pts (A2 level gives 5 pts.) Provided they meet the minimum requirements and have ranked among the top five after the assessment of the CV phase, at least one person from the underrepresented gender in the division/office will be interviewed.

A permanent scientific and technical contract linked to the ALBA II project, with a duration extending until at least 2032.
