About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Data Platform Manager to lead an engineering team responsible for building and evolving a large-scale, cloud-native data platform.

This is not a traditional Data Management position. We are looking for someone who comes from a strong Software Engineering / Platform Engineering background , ideally with hands-on experience in Golang, Kubernetes and distributed systems , and who has progressed into technical leadership and people management.

You will combine engineering leadership, architecture and team development , working closely with senior engineers, architects and product stakeholders to shape the future of a highly scalable data platform.

The environment is heavily focused on cloud-native engineering, automation, Kubernetes and building platforms as products .

What You'll Do

- Lead and develop a team of Software, Platform and Data Platform Engineers.
- Own the technical direction and evolution of key components within the Data Platform.
- Drive architectural decisions around distributed systems, Kubernetes and cloud-native services .
- Work closely with engineers on technical design, architecture reviews and complex engineering challenges.
- Ensure the platform remains scalable, resilient, secure and highly available.
- Promote strong engineering practices around testing, observability, automation and CI/CD.
- Drive the development of internal APIs, services and platform capabilities.
- Support the team in designing and operating production systems at scale.
- Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure and Data teams across an international engineering organisation.
- Balance technical excellence with business priorities and delivery.
- Mentor senior engineers and create clear development paths within the team.
- Build a strong engineering culture based on ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Technical Background





We are looking for someone who has previously been a strong engineer and understands the challenges their team is solving.

Ideally, you will bring experience across several of the following areas:

- Golang / Go
- Kubernetes
- Kubernetes Operators / Controllers
- Cloud-native architectures
- Microservices and distributed systems
- REST / gRPC APIs
- Event-driven architectures
- Docker / containerisation
- Terraform / Infrastructure as Code
- CI/CD and GitOps
- Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry or similar observability tooling
- SQL / NoSQL technologies
- Data infrastructure or large-scale data platforms
- Public or private cloud environments

Experience building platform products, developer platforms, database platforms, data infrastructure or Kubernetes-based services would be particularly valuable.

Leadership Experience

Alongside your technical background, you should have experience:

- Managing or technically leading engineering teams.
- Hiring, mentoring and developing engineers.
- Working with Senior and Staff-level Engineers.
- Translating technical strategy into actionable engineering roadmaps.
- Making architecture decisions while empowering engineers to own solutions.
- Working across multiple teams and stakeholders in an international environment.

We are not looking for a manager who has completely moved away from technology. You should still be comfortable discussing architecture, challenging technical decisions and understanding code-level conversations when necessary.
