Job Description
Purpose of the Role
The Primary Teaching Assistant plays a key role in supporting the class teacher in delivering high-quality learning experiences for pupils. The role involves working closely with children to promote their academic, social, and emotional development within a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment. The Teaching Assistant helps ensure that every child is supported to reach their full potential.
Responsibilities
- Support the class teacher in the planning, preparation, and delivery of learning activities.
- Work with individual pupils or small groups to reinforce learning and provide targeted support.
- Assist in creating a positive, stimulating, and well-organised classroom environment.
- Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and behaviour in line with the school’s policies.
- Help assess and record pupil progress, feeding back to the class teacher as appropriate.
- Prepare and organise learning materials and classroom resources.
- Support pupils with additional learning needs or special educational needs (SEN), adapting tasks where necessary.
- Supervise pupils during classroom activities, break times, and school outings when required.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe and inclusive school environment.
- Participate in school meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
Requirements
- Experience working with children in an educational setting (primary age preferred).
- A good understanding of child development and primary education practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive, proactive attitude.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Relevant qualifications in education or childcare
- A good level of English literacy and numeracy.
