- Mineral dust emitted by wind erosion from arid and semi-arid regions is the most abundant aerosol type in terms of general mass and plays a crucial role in the Earth system. Dust contributes over two-thirds of the global aerosol mass in the atmosphere and is responsible for about one-fourth of the attenuation of solar radiation by all aerosols. The recent advances in numerical modelling developments, observational capabilities, information technologies - and in particular High Performance Computing (HPC) - have contributed to a better understanding of aerosol processes and a better quantification of
