At ING we are looking for a Graduate in the Energy Sector Coverage team
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Graduate - to join our Energy Sector Coverage team within ING Wholesale Banking, based in Madrid.
The Energy Sector team partners with leading clients across the full energy value chain, including Renewables & Power, Utilities, Hydrocarbons & New Energies and emerging low-carbon technologies. Our clients include utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), infrastructure and energy funds, developers, energy transition platforms and large corporates active in the sector.
As part of a general Energy platform with teams across EMEA, APAC and the Americas, we support our clients through the full suite of ING products, including Lending, Financial Markets, Transaction Services, Debt Capital Markets and Advisory.
You will work closely with senior sector bankers in Iberia and internationally, gaining exposure to client coverage, origination, strategic advisory, transaction execution and portfolio management across some of the most relevant energy transition investments in Europe.
Your key responsibilities:
As an Graduate, you will support the team across both business development and transaction execution activities. Your responsibilities will include:
Client coverage and business development
- Support the preparation of client presentations, pitch books, market updates and strategic account plans.
- Perform industry, company and market research across the Energy sector, including renewables, utilities, energy transition and new energy technologies.
- Analyze client business models, competitive positioning and strategic developments.
- Monitor sector trends, regulatory changes and market developments relevant to clients and the Energy franchise.
Transaction execution
- Conduct financial, commercial and credit analysis of companies, projects and transactions.
- Build and review financial models and financing structures.
- Assist with due diligence processes, including review of financial, technical, legal and market reports.
- Support the preparation of internal credit applications, commercial approvals and other governance-related documentation.
- Coordinate workstreams with clients, advisors and internal stakeholders across Product, Risk, Legal and Compliance teams.
Portfolio management
- Support the ongoing monitoring of the team's client portfolio and existing transactions.
- Assist with annual reviews, amendment requests, waivers and portfolio reporting.
- Maintain relevant client, transaction and sector information within internal systems and databases.

The ideal candidate will have:
- A Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline with strong academic results from top-tier universities.
- Previous internship or professional experience in banking, project finance, corporate finance, investment banking, consulting or related fields.
- Strong financial and analytical skills, including an interest in financial modelling and corporate/project finance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English
- A genuine interest in infrastructure and the energy transition.
In addition, we are looking for someone who is:
- Curious, proactive and eager to learn.
- Structured, detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple workstreams simultaneously.
- A strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working in an international and multidisciplinary environment.
- Motivated to take ownership, contribute ideas and develop into a future client-facing banker.
