We operate in a highly regulated industrial environment and are committed to quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. We are dedicated to continuous improvement and developing our people, recognising them as a key driver of our success.
About the Position
We are looking for an HSE Technician to lead and coordinate site activities related to health, safety, and environmental management, reporting directly to the Operations Director and working closely with the OCB site management team.
The role will give management clear visibility of HSE performance, significant risks, incidents, regulatory obligations, and the status of corrective actions.
This is a practical, site-based role with regular presence in production, utilities, storage and waste-management areas.
We are seeking an organised, proactive, and committed professional who is comfortable working hands-on with operators, supervisors, contractors, and external service providers, while also maintaining the records, monitoring, and regulatory follow-up required for the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, monitor and maintain the Prevention Plan in collaboration with the external Health and Safety Service Provider.
- Manage occupational risk assessments and ensure preventive and corrective actions are implemented and their effectiveness verified.
- Provide regular HSE reporting to OCB site management, promptly escalating significant safety, environmental or regulatory risks and tracking agreed actions through to completion.
- Coordinate occupational health surveillance activities.
- Manage and keep the Emergency Response and Self-Protection Plan up to date and coordinate associated actions and drills.
- Coordinate waste and wastewater management activities, including required monitoring and records, and ensure compliance with applicable legal and permit requirements.
- Lead the company’s day-to-day environmental management activities, including environmental monitoring, permits, inspections and required follow-up.
- Act as the main site point of contact for HSE matters with VITAL Group/HQ, regional environmental authorities, regulatory bodies and relevant external service providers, coordinating required communications, inspections and associated actions.
- Carry out regular site inspections and workplace observations, identify HSE issues and ensure actions are assigned and followed through to closure.
- Support investigation of HSE incidents, near misses and environmental deviations, including root-cause analysis and corrective-action follow-up.
- Promote a strong, practical health, safety and environmental culture throughout the organisation through regular site presence, observation, communication and follow-up.
Qualifications
- Technical, university, or higher vocational education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field. The position requires relevant technical qualifications and knowledge applicable to the role in Spain.
- Previous hands-on experience in a similar site-based position within chemical and/or pharmaceutical industrial environments.
- Good command of IT tools and software, with the ability to maintain monitoring data, records and action tracking.
- Experience in the chemical or process industry is highly desirable.
- Good working knowledge of industrial safety, occupational health and safety, and environmental regulations applicable to an operating industrial site.
- Professional proficiency in English (B2 level), with the ability to understand, write, and communicate effectively in matters related to the role.
Key Competencies
- Strong observation and analytical skills to identify risks, unsafe conditions and improvement opportunities during day-to-day site activities.
- Effective communication skills to deliver training and raise HSE awareness across teams.
- Ability to influence and promote a preventive culture at all levels of the organisation, and to challenge or escalate issues when necessary.
- Proactive attitude, autonomy and initiative in practical problem-solving and following actions through to completion.
- Strong planning, organisational, and prioritisation skills.
- Results-driven mindset with a focus on practical improvement and effective closure of actions.
- Team player with the ability to collaborate across departments, with operators and contractors, and with external providers.
What We Offer
- A permanent position within a solid and growing industrial company.
- Direct, hands-on involvement in site safety and environmental improvement activities.
- A collaborative and dynamic SME working environment.
- The opportunity to take on a practical role with significant impact and visibility across the Canovelles site.
- Competitive compensation aligned with experience and qualifications.
