The Opportunity

We're looking for a Senior Property Underwriter to join our growing team in Spain on a permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role within QBE's Property business, underwriting a diverse portfolio of corporate, mid-market and multinational property risks across Spain and wider European markets. Working closely with brokers, customers and colleagues across the business, you'll contribute to the continued growth and profitability of an important portfolio while helping to strengthen QBE's presence in the market.

Reporting to the Property Portfolio Manager, you'll work collaboratively with the wider Property Underwriting team, Risk Management and Market Management colleagues to deliver sustainable growth, exceptional service and strong underwriting outcomes.

In addition to underwriting complex property risks, you'll act as a technical point of reference within the team, sharing expertise, supporting best practice and helping to develop less experienced colleagues. The role offers significant exposure to multinational programmes, complex risks and strategic portfolio initiatives.

Your New Role

As a Senior Underwriter, you'll be responsible for underwriting complex Property risks within delegated authority, ensuring business is written in line with underwriting appetite, portfolio objectives and regulatory requirements.

You'll analyse risk exposures, negotiate terms and conditions, build strong broker relationships and identify opportunities to grow the portfolio profitably. Working collaboratively across functions, you'll support the delivery of underwriting strategy while maintaining a disciplined and customer-focused approach.

Main Responsibilities





- Underwrite new and renewal Property business in accordance with delegated authority and underwriting guidelines.
- Contribute to the delivery of the Property portfolio business plan and support profitable growth objectives.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, customers and business partners across the Spanish market.
- Underwrite multinational programmes and collaborate with international stakeholders where appropriate.
- Negotiate pricing, terms and conditions for new and existing business opportunities.
- Partner closely with Risk Management and Market Management teams to support underwriting decisions and strategic initiatives.
- Monitor and review portfolio performance, identifying trends, opportunities and areas requiring action.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and internal governance requirements.
- Maintain accurate underwriting and exposure information within QBE systems.
- Share technical expertise, provide mentoring support and contribute to the development of underwriting excellence across the team.

About You You'll be an experienced Property Underwriter with strong technical expertise and a successful track record of underwriting complex commercial property risks. You'll enjoy building relationships, making informed underwriting decisions and working collaboratively to deliver sustainable results. You'll bring a strong commercial mindset, excellent analytical skills and the confidence to negotiate effectively with brokers and customers. You'll also have experience supporting, coaching or mentoring colleagues and be comfortable contributing to a high-performing team environment.

Skills and experience you'll need:

- Significant underwriting experience within Commercial Property insurance.
- Strong technical underwriting knowledge and understanding of portfolio management principles.
- Experience underwriting complex and multinational property programmes.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain broker and customer relationships.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of market dynamics.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation and decision-making skills.
- Ability to interpret risk information and use data to support underwriting decisions.




- Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Knowledge of applicable legal and regulatory requirements within the insurance industry.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience using underwriting systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
- Previous leadership, coaching or mentoring experience would be advantageous.
