Principal Data Scientist / AI Technical Lead

We are looking for an exceptional Principal Data Scientist / AI Technical Lead to become one of the senior technical authorities within INSUS.

The RoleThis is not a standard Senior Data Scientist position.

We are looking for a highly experienced scientist and technical leader capable of taking ownership of some of our most complex AI challenges—from problem formulation and mathematical modeling through experimentation, architecture, validation and productionization.

The successful candidate will combine deep scientific expertise, advanced machine-learning knowledge, strong mathematical foundations and practical engineering judgment.

You will work directly with senior INSUS engineers, architects, business leaders and customer stakeholders, helping determine not only how we build AI solutions, but also what should be built and why.

Key Responsibilities

- Act as a technical authority for Data Science and Applied AI across complex customer engagements.
- Lead the end-to-end technical approach for high-value AI initiatives.
- Translate ambiguous industrial and business challenges into rigorous mathematical, statistical and machine-learning problems.
- Define modeling strategy, experimentation frameworks, validation criteria and technical architecture.
- Design advanced solutions involving time-series forecasting, anomaly detection, predictive analytics, optimization, NLP, deep learning, LLMs and RAG.
- Evaluate state-of-the-art research and determine which methods can create practical customer value.
- Challenge modeling assumptions and ensure scientific and statistical rigor.
- Lead technical discovery and AI feasibility assessments with customers.
- Guide projects from research/PoC through production deployment and operational scaling.
- Work closely with ML Engineers, Data Engineers, MLOps Engineers,



Software Engineers and Solution Architects.
- Establish technical standards, methodologies and best practices for Data Science within INSUS.
- Review and challenge the work of other Data Scientists and AI Engineers.
- Mentor senior and junior technical team members.
- Represent INSUS as a senior AI expert in customer workshops and technical discussions.
- Contribute to INSUS's AI technology strategy, innovation roadmap and intellectual property.

Required BackgroundWe are looking for a genuinely senior profile with:

- 10+ years of relevant Data Science, Machine Learning, AI or advanced quantitative experience, or an exceptional research/industrial track record demonstrating equivalent seniority.
- MSc or preferably PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering or another highly quantitative discipline.
- Exceptional mathematical, statistical and analytical capabilities.
- Deep understanding of machine-learning fundamentals—not simply experience using ML libraries.
- Expert-level Python and strong command of the modern scientific/ML ecosystem.
- Extensive hands-on experience designing and validating sophisticated ML models.
- Strong experience with several of:
- Time-series modeling and forecasting
- Anomaly detection
- Predictive modeling
- Optimization
- Deep learning
- Explainable AI
- NLP
- LLMs / Generative AI
- RAG and knowledge-based AI
- Experience taking AI solutions beyond experimentation into production environments.
- Strong understanding of model performance, robustness, explainability, monitoring and lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience.
- Ability to communicate sophisticated technical concepts to both technical and executive stakeholders.
- Professional-level English.

Specific tools are less important than the candidate's ability to understand the underlying problem and select the right methodology.
