Offer Description

Mission:

Contribute to the UTILE project by developing and applying advanced optical and laser diagnostics to study flame propagation, flame-wall interaction and heat transfer.

Functions to be developed:

-

- Design and operate combustion, flame propagation and flame-wall interaction experiments, including hydrogen flames.

- Implement high-speed optical and laser diagnostics: PIV, PLIF, chemiluminescence, Schlieren and spectroscopic techniques.

- Analyze flame structure and dynamics, stability, heat transfer and NOx emissions.

- Integrate experimental data with CFD models and develop analysis routines with Python or MATLAB.

- Manage experimental equipment, calibrations and safety; publish results, present them and support students.

- Combustion diagnostics: PIV, PLIF, chemiluminescence, Schlieren or Rayleigh spectroscopy.

- Design, assembly and operation of combustion installations.

- Optical system alignment, synchronization, data acquisition, calibration and instrumentation.

- Image processing of PIV, PLIF, chemiluminescence and high-speed techniques.

- Programming in Python or MATLAB and use of ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+ or equivalent tools.

- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in an international and multidisciplinary team.

- Availability for experimental laboratory work and to learn new advanced laser techniques.

Specific Requirements

Knowledge:

-

- Fluid mechanics and heat transfer.

- Combustion of hydrogen and other fuels, formation of pollutants and measurement of NOx.

- Flame dynamics, thermoacoustic instabilities, flashback and extinction limits.

- Flame-wall interaction, thermal loads and design of experimental facilities.

- CFD of reactive flows and quantitative analysis of experimental data.

- It will be assessed:

-

- Experience in CARS, ultrafast lasers, thermometry with phosphors or flame propagation.

Professional Experience:

-

- In experimental combustion and optical diagnostics.

- In test campaigns, experiment-CFD correlation and results-based design iterations.

- Have collaborated with academic teams and research centres.

- Have scientific publications and communication of results; project coordination and student supervision will be valued.

- Experience in functions similar to those described will be valued, specifically in the development of research activities, both in the university and industrial environment.

Additional Information

Eligibility criteria

All the candidates who cannot prove the required academic degree will be immediately withdrawn from the selection process.





The CVs will be assessed according the following general criteria:

- The maximum score for the candidates who accomplish all the eligibility criteria stated in the job offer will be 10 points.

- Threshold: 5 points.

- The maximum score (10 points) will be distributed as follows:

- 1 point for required speciality.

- 2 points for required academic training.

- 2 points for technic competences.

- 1 point for organisational competences.

- 3 points for professional experience.

- 1 point for any aspect of the candidate’s professional profile to be determined as specially relevant by the Selection committee.

If the selection committee decide to include a personal interview as additional step of the selection process, only the candidates scored 5 or above for their CV will be retained for the interview step.

The interview will be assessed according the following criteria:

-

- Threshold: 3 points.

- The maximum score will be distributed according the following criteria:

- 2 points for adequacy to functional competences of the job.

- 2 points for adequacy of professional experience.

- 1 point for any aspect of the candidate’s professional profile to be determined as especially relevant by the Selection committee.

The eligible candidates will be ranked from highest to lowest score, being this the selection criteria.

Selection process

The planned selection process is as follows:

-

- The members of the selection committee will decide for each case what the selection process will be, if an assessment is made only for the curriculum vitae or any other procedure is planned: interview, tests, etc ...
