You'll manage that team while staying close to the work, stepping in directly on the hardest design problems the team faces, rather than carrying a delivery workload of your own.



Tackle challenging design problems
Set the standard for design quality through the judgment you bring to hard problems, not by owning a piece of the delivery pipeline.
This includes their performance, growth, and career development against that bar.
Run regular design reviews and give feedback that's specific enough to act on.
Raise the quality bar across the team
Push for measurable outcomes and clear success metrics on every project.
Improve requirement quality with Product and reduce rework.
Elevate the level of critique and design discussion within the team.
Be the design voice in cross-functional conversations where quality, scope, or timeline get traded off — with Product and Engineering leads on your surface, and with stakeholders elsewhere in the org when the work touches them.
