About the Role

Zetes is strengthening its Engineering team in Wommelgem and is opening a position for a Mechanical Design Engineer. This role will contribute to the mechanical design and development of our industrial equipment, with a strong focus on labelling machines and customized automation solutions.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for translating project and product requirements into robust, manufacturable mechanical designs. Your responsibilities include:

Design & Develop

- Design mechanical assemblies, sub-assemblies, parts, and machine components for industrial labelling and automation equipment.
- Translate functional, technical, and customer requirements into reliable 3D mechanical designs.
- Ensure designs are robust, cost-effective, easy to manufacture, assemble, maintain, and service.

Prepare Manufacturing Documentation

- Prepare the technical documentation required for manufacturing, purchasing, assembly, and workshop execution.
- Create and maintain 2D drawings,



bills of materials, assembly documentation, and technical specifications.
- Define the required finishing processes and surface treatments for mechanical components when needed.

Apply Standards & Ensure Compliance

- Design machinery with consideration for applicable machine safety, CE marking, risk assessment, guarding, interlocking, emergency stop, and electrical/mechanical integration requirements.
- Apply relevant standards and internal design rules to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant equipment.
- Support the preparation of the technical documentation required for certification and machine compliance.

Collaborate & Support Projects

- Work closely with the Engineering team and the workshop to ensure smooth transition from design to manufacturing and assembly.
- Analyze and select commercial mechanical components required for our equipment.
- Participate in project definition, FAT activities, and technical support to other countries when project complexity requires it.
- Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders to solve technical issues and support continuous improvement of our equipment.

Your Profile

Education & Experience

- You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
- You bring approximately 5–7+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in industrial machinery, automation, packaging, labelling, or low-volume/high-customization environments.
- You have proven experience designing mechanical assemblies from concept to manufacturing and assembly documentation.




- Experience working closely with production workshops, assembly teams, suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams is an asset.

Skills & Competencies

- Mandatory experience with Autodesk Inventor for 3D mechanical design.
- Good knowledge of AutoCAD for 2D design and technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, tolerances, manufacturing processes, and assembly constraints.
- Ability to select commercial mechanical components and define finishing or surface treatment requirements.
- Knowledge of applicable machinery safety and CE-related requirements is important.
- Dutch is mandatory; native level is not required.
- Advanced English is required. French is a plus.
- You are structured, hands-on, communicative, and comfortable working in close collaboration with both engineering and workshop teams.
