PhD Position in Artificial Intelligence and Optimization – 3-Year Predoctoral Contract at UPVA 3-year fully funded PhD position is available at the Research Centre on Production Management and Engineering (CIGIP), Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), Spain. The research will focus on developing advanced methods combining Artificial Intelligence and Operations Research to solve complex planning and optimization problems in dynamic environments. The project will explore multi-objective optimization, metaheuristics, Machine Learning, and Deep Reinforcement Learning, with applications to real-world Field Service problems.

At the Research Centre on Production Management and Engineering (CIGIP) at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), we are looking for a candidate to join our research team through a 3-year predoctoral contract.

The position is funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) under the Knowledge Generation Projects and Predoctoral Research Training Programme – 2025 Call, and is associated with the following research project:

? What will you work on?

The PhD research will focus on developing new methods to solve complex planning and optimization problems in dynamic environments,



combining Operations Research and Artificial Intelligence.

We will work with techniques such as multi-objective optimization, metaheuristics, Machine Learning, and Deep Reinforcement Learning, aiming to develop systems capable not only of finding high-quality solutions, but also of adapting and replanning in response to changes and uncertainty.

The methodologies developed will be applied to real-world Field Service problems, where people, vehicles, resources, and geographically distributed tasks need to be efficiently coordinated.

? What profile are we looking for?

We are looking for graduates in Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields who are interested in pursuing a research career and already hold a Master’s degree that provides access to a PhD programme.

Candidates should have an interest in programming, optimization, and Artificial Intelligence. Knowledge of Python, optimization, Machine Learning, metaheuristics, and/or Reinforcement Learning will be highly valued.
