Scientist MRI – Pharmaceutical R&D; (Beerse, Belgium)

About the Role
We're looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Scientist to join a global Advanced Material Characterization and Investigations team within a leading pharmaceutical R&D; organization. This laboratory-based role focuses on developing innovative MRI methods for APIs, complex drug formulations, and drug-delivery device functionality, working alongside specialists in state-of-the-art labs equipped with pre-clinical MRI and NMR systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and validate MRI methods for pharmaceutical materials, formulations, and dosage forms
- Establish MRI workflows complementary to CT scan analysis, including:
- Water ingress and hydration kinetics in tablets, capsules, gels, and complex dosage forms
- Coating and capsule performance, including integrity, permeability, and release behavior
- Device functionality for drug-delivery systems via non-destructive imaging
- Sedimentation and resuspendability of suspensions, depots, and dispersed systems
- Translate imaging data into actionable formulation and process insights for project teams
- Support cross-functional studies spanning formulation development, analytical development,
and material science
- Build internal expertise, SOPs, and data interpretation practices for MRI-based characterization
- Potentially perform basic solid-state NMR experiments
- Maintain a safe work environment in line with GMP, safety, and regulatory requirements
What You Bring
- A minimum of a Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, or a related field, with an affinity for complex instrumentation (PhD advantageous but not required)
- Hands-on experience with pre-clinical MRI instrumentation is highly preferred
- Experience interpreting imaging and spectroscopic data and communicating results to non-expert audiences
- Solid-state NMR experience is a plus
- Organic chemistry knowledge is a plus
- A fast-learning, scientifically curious, self-steering, and proactive mindset
- Strong written and spoken communication skills in English
- An open-minded, collaborative approach to working in a global team
- A results-driven, adaptable, and dynamic working style

- On-site presence: 100% on-site, lab-based role (remote work only exceptionally, upon discussion with the hiring manager)
