Freelance Azure Security Engineer

Location: Brussels, Belgium (Hybrid)

Contract: Freelance

Duration: 12 Months Initial Contract + potential extensions

We are currently searching for an experienced Azure Security Engineer to support a large-scale cloud security and transformation programme for a leading financial organisation based in Brussels.

This role requires a hands-on Azure security specialist who can design, implement, and improve cloud security controls across Microsoft Azure environments. You will work closely with Infrastructure, Architecture, DevOps, and Security teams to strengthen the organisation's security posture, implement best practices, and ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate security standards.

This is an exciting opportunity for a consultant who enjoys working in complex enterprise environments and wants to play a key role in driving cloud security initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

- Designing and implementing security solutions across Microsoft Azure environments.
- Securing cloud platforms, workloads, identities, applications, and data.
- Configuring and managing Azure-native security technologies, including: Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Azure Firewall, Azure Policy, Network Security Groups (NSGs), Microsoft Defender XDR
- Implementing and maintaining Zero Trust security principles.
- Defining and enforcing cloud security governance and standards.
- Performing security reviews, risk assessments, and vulnerability assessments.
- Responding to security incidents and supporting threat detection and remediation activities.




- Working with project and engineering teams to embed security into solution design and delivery.
- Managing identity and access management controls, including Conditional Access and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
- Supporting compliance initiatives and security audits.
- Developing and maintaining security documentation, operational procedures, and technical standards.
- Automating security processes and controls using Infrastructure as Code and scripting technologies.
- Identifying opportunities to improve cloud security maturity and operational efficiency.

Required Experience

- Minimum 5 years of experience within Cyber Security, Information Security, or Cloud Security.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on Azure Security engineering experience.
- Proven experience working within enterprise-scale Azure environments.
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture and Azure security best practices.
- Experience implementing cloud security frameworks and controls.
- Experience working with security monitoring, threat detection, and incident response activities.
- Ability to work independently in a consulting or contractor capacity.
