At QBE, we get to the heart of what matters for our customers – and we do it all with a human touch.
We're an international insurer and reinsurer with more than 13,000 people working across 26 countries, which means we're big enough for your ambitions, yet small enough for you to make a real impact. It's an exciting time at QBE as we continue to build momentum towards our vision of becoming the most consistent and innovative risk partner.
What if you could have a positive impact – at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you'll work alongside people who are passionate, talented and kind.
The opportunity
We're looking for a Senior Underwriter, Professional Indemnity, to join our team in Spain on a permanent basis.
This is a key role within QBE's Financial Lines business in Spain, offering the opportunity to take ownership of a complex Professional Indemnity portfolio and contribute to its continued development and profitable growth. Working closely with brokers, customers and colleagues across Europe, you will play an important role in shaping underwriting strategy, strengthening market relationships and delivering sustainable portfolio performance.
Beyond day-to-day underwriting responsibilities, you will act as a recognised technical specialist, providing insight on complex risks, contributing to underwriting excellence and supporting the development of best practices across the business. The role offers significant exposure to challenging and diverse risks, as well as the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a strategically important portfolio within QBE.
Your new role
As a Senior Underwriter, you'll be responsible for underwriting complex Professional Indemnity risks within delegated authority, ensuring strong portfolio performance and alignment with business objectives. You'll work collaboratively with brokers, customers and colleagues to evaluate risks, negotiate terms and deliver sustainable growth.
You'll utilise your analytical and technical expertise to assess opportunities, manage portfolio performance and support business planning activities. Alongside day-to-day underwriting responsibilities, you'll contribute to portfolio reviews, market analysis and the continuous development of underwriting best practice.
Main responsibilities
- Underwrite complex Professional Indemnity risks in accordance with delegated authority and business objectives
- Support the delivery of the portfolio business plan and contribute to profitable growth
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, customers and business partners
- Negotiate rates, terms and conditions for both new and existing business opportunities
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and internal underwriting requirements
- Review and analyse portfolio performance, identifying risks and opportunities
- Apply reinsurance requirements and underwriting strategies to support portfolio objectives
- Act as a technical referral point and share expertise with colleagues across the business
- Maintain accurate underwriting and exposure data within QBE systems
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the development of underwriting best practice
About You You'll be an experienced Professional Indemnity underwriter with strong technical expertise and a proven ability to manage complex risks within a commercial insurance environment. You'll enjoy building long-term relationships, making informed underwriting decisions and delivering excellent service to brokers and customers. You'll be commercially minded, highly organised and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical and negotiation skills, combined with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, will enable you to achieve positive business outcomes while maintaining underwriting discipline.
Skills and experience you'll need:
- Significant underwriting experience within Professional Indemnity or Financial Lines insurance
- Strong technical understanding of underwriting principles, practices and portfolio management
- Excellent broker relationship management and business development skills
- Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities
- Commercial awareness and understanding of insurance market dynamics
- Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills
- Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements
- Understanding of reinsurance principles and risk management practices
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Experience using underwriting systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel
- Previous experience supporting or mentoring colleagues would be advantageous
