Scientist MRI – Advanced Material Characterization
Are you an ambitious researcher with deep expertise in imaging techniques and a drive to solve complex analytical challenges in pharmaceutical development? Join an international center of excellence where state-of-the-art technology meets cutting-edge healthcare innovation. This is your opportunity to apply advanced pre-clinical MRI and imaging data processing to shape the future of life-changing medicines.
About the Company
Our client is a global healthcare leader operating a world-class center of excellence in Beerse, Belgium. The Advanced Material Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group within their Analytical Development division performs advanced analytical characterization of pharmaceutical products. The Advanced Molecular Analysis (AMA) team leads global investigations using high-resolution Mass Spectrometry, solution and solid-state NMR, pre-clinical MRI, and other state-of-the-art analytical tools to drive pharmaceutical innovation across discovery, product development, and supply teams.
Job Content
As a Scientist MRI, you will work directly within a dynamic, state-of-the-art laboratory environment in Beerse, collaborating with internal and external specialists in drug product and analytical development teams. You will design, establish, and execute innovative MRI methods to evaluate active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), complex dosage forms, and advanced drug-delivery systems. By translating complex imaging data into actionable insights, you will directly inform and guide cross-functional drug formulation and process teams.
Responsibilities
- Method development:
develop and validate pre-clinical MRI methods and workflows complementary to CT scan analysis for complex pharmaceutical formulations and materials.
- Application areas: analyze water ingress and hydration kinetics in tablets/capsules/gels, evaluate coating and capsule performance, assess device functionality in drug-delivery systems, and evaluate sedimentation/resuspendability in dispersed systems.
- Data & communication: process imaging data (utilizing AI/machine learning tools) and clearly present actionable insights in cross-functional meetings to non-expert stakeholders and internal project teams.
- Operational excellence: build internal standard operating procedures, establish fit-for-purpose data interpretation practices, and potentially support basic solid-state NMR experiments.
- Compliance: prepare samples, execute lab work independently after initial onboarding (6–10 weeks), and maintain a safe, compliant environment adhering to GMP, health, and safety regulations.
Job Requirements
- Education: Master’s degree or PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or a related scientific field with strong analytical instrument affinity. Post-doc experience is a plus.
- Technical expertise: hands-on experience with pre-clinical MRI instrumentation.
Knowledge of solid-state NMR and organic chemistry is highly advantageous.
- Data processing: solid background in imaging processing (including AI or Machine Learning principles).
- Skills & competencies: fast, self-steering learner who can work independently, communicate fluently in English (written and spoken), and collaborate effectively in a integral team.
- Location & onsite presence: candidates must be Belgium-based and able to work 100% on-site at the laboratory facility in Beerse.
