Madrid

This role aligns to industry-level titles such as Mid/Senior UX Designer.

An Advanced Specialist, User Experience Design is an individual contributor role responsible for designing intuitive, accessible, and engaging user experiences across Pearson's English Language Learning (ELL) digital products. The role applies user-centred design practices to help create learner and teacher experiences that meet customer needs, support business objectives, and align with Pearson's design standards.

The role sits within the ELL Product organization, reports to Team Manager, User Experience Design, and works closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Content teams, Researchers, and other designers to translate user insights and product requirements into effective design solutions. It contributes to the design and continuous improvement of digital products by participating in discovery, research, interaction design, prototyping, usability testing, and design validation activities.

Location & Work Setup

This full-time role will be based in Spain. The role follows a hybrid model, with regular collaboration from the Madrid office once per week.

Your Key Responsibilities

- Lead the end-to-end design process for digital product initiatives, from discovery and concept development through to detailed design and delivery.
- Act as the primary UX designer within a cross-functional product squad, owning and prioritizing design work alongside Product Management and Engineering partners.
- Translate user needs, business objectives, and product requirements into intuitive, accessible, and engaging user experiences.
- Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that effectively communicate concepts and support product decision-making.

- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, Content teams, and other designers to shape product direction and deliver high-quality experiences.
- Engage proactively with stakeholders, asking clarifying questions, defining scope, and helping shape solutions rather than simply executing requirements.
- Rapidly explore and validate concepts through prototyping and experimentation, including the use of AI-enabled tools where appropriate.
- Ensure design solutions align with Pearson design standards, established UX patterns, accessibility requirements, and best practices.
- Contribute to a collaborative design culture by sharing knowledge, participating in design reviews, and supporting continuous improvement within the UX community.
- Design experiences for complex digital platforms, including learner, teacher, administrator, content, workflow, and data-driven experiences where applicable.

What We’re Looking For We're looking for a mid-senior level Designer who can operate independently within a cross-functional product squad and take ownership of the end-to-end design process. The successful candidate will be comfortable acting as the primary designer on initiatives, shaping solutions from discovery through delivery while collaborating closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and fellow designers.

Key requirements:

- Proven experience leading the experience design effort for complex digital products or platforms, with the ability to own and manage a design backlog independently.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating user-centred design thinking, problem solving, and measurable product impact, including the ability to articulate design decisions and measure the outcomes of experiences once live.
- Experience working on digital platforms and designing multi-user experiences, such as learning platforms, SaaS products, content platforms, dashboards, or other information-rich products.
- Ability to shape work rather than simply execute requirements, proactively engaging stakeholders, asking clarifying questions, and influencing solution direction.
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and other business stakeholders in an agile environment
- Demonstrated ability to make sound design decisions independently while applying established design frameworks, patterns, and best practices
- A mindset of continuous improvement, actively seeking feedback, incorporating learnings, and understanding how individual design work contributes to broader product strategy and business goals.
- Experience rapidly prototyping concepts and using modern design and AI-enabled tools to explore ideas, validate approaches, and align stakeholders.
