Intern Granular Certificate Registry Operations & Tooling @ Flexidao

Location: Barcelona, hybrid

Contract: Paid internship, six months

Start date: TBD

Help make clean-electricity claims more credible The electricity system is changing fast. Companies increasingly want to know not only whether their energy is renewable, but whether clean electricity was produced in the same place and at the same time it was consumed.

At FlexiDAO, we build the data and software infrastructure that makes this possible. Our Granular Certificate (GC) Registry helps turn verified Energy Attribute Certificate (EAC) cancellations and settlement-grade production data into traceable, hourly Granular Certificates. This supports the emerging standards for more credible 24/7 clean-energy accounting.

What you will do

We are looking for an intern who wants to sit at the intersection of energy markets, data operations, product, and software. You will not spend six months doing repetitive administration.

You will learn how a real certificate registry operates, help make its processes more robust, and create tools that make life easier for our team and partners.

You will work closely with product, engineering, and energy-market specialists. Your work will combine supervised registry operations with practical improvements to the systems around them.

Help run a trustworthy registry

- Support the intake and review of GC issuance requests, including production data, EAC-cancellation evidence, and supporting documentation.
- Help identify incomplete, inconsistent, or hard-to-process submissions and make the resolution path clearer for the team and the requester.
- Contribute to traceable operational records, request triage, and data-quality checks under the supervision of experienced registry and compliance colleagues.
- Learn why preventing double counting matters and how granular certificate data is handled through its issuance and cancellation lifecycle.

Build tools that remove friction

- Improve API request contracts, integration guidance, and validation feedback so partners provide higher-quality data from the start.
- Prototype, specify,

or help build internal tools such as request-triage views, reconciliation checks, exception queues, operational dashboards, and audit-ready reporting.
- Turn recurring questions and validation issues into clearer guidance, reusable runbooks, and self-service material.
- Help make technical API and integration guidance more understandable for registry users, energy-data providers, and EAC-registry partners.

Shape an emerging product

- Speak with colleagues and, where appropriate, external stakeholders to understand where the current process is slow, confusing, or manual.
- Translate those findings into practical product improvements, from a better operational workflow to a small automation or a well-defined engineering ticket.
- Explore adjacent opportunities that emerge from the work: data-quality tooling, partner onboarding, market research, reporting, or new ways to make hourly energy data useful.

What success could look like after six months

By the end of the internship, you could have:

- Made a measurable improvement to the quality or speed of GC issuance-request intake.
- Delivered a useful internal operations tool, prototype, or dashboard adopted by the registry team.
- Created clearer partner-facing submission guidance that reduces avoidable validation errors.
- Built a practical understanding of EACs, granular certificates, hourly energy data, and the operational controls behind credible clean-energy claims.
- Contributed to a real product in a market that is still being defined.

What we are looking for

You may be studying, or have recently completed, a degree in engineering, data science, computer science, energy, economics, sustainability, or a related field. More important than a perfect background is that you are curious, structured, and keen to solve real problems.

You will likely enjoy this role if you:

- Like working with data and can spot when something does not add up.
- Are comfortable working with API requests, documentation, and technical systems.
- Can explain a complicated issue clearly to technical and non-technical people.
- Take ownership, ask thoughtful questions, and improve a process rather than simply following it.
- Care about the energy transition and want to understand how markets, data, and software can accelerate it.

Experience with TypeScript, APIs, SQL, data analysis, product operations, or energy certificates is helpful but not required. We value the ability to learn quickly and turn ambiguity into a useful next step.

What you will learn

This is an opportunity to work on a practical climate-tech product with real operational and technical depth. You will gain exposure to:

- Granular Certificates, Energy Attribute Certificates, and the move toward hourly clean-electricity accounting.
- The connection between energy-market rules, data quality, and software design.
- API-based services and integrations, data validation, observability, and production operations.
- Product discovery with internal teams and external partners.
- The trade-offs required to build reliable, auditable systems in an emerging market.

A note on responsibility The integrity of a certificate registry matters. Approval decisions, compliance assessments, and certificate issuance or cancellation remain under the responsibility of experienced FlexiDAO colleagues. Your role is to strengthen the processes, tooling, and data quality that help the team operate reliably.

About FlexiDAO

FlexiDAO develops software and data infrastructure for the transition to a more versátil, transparent, and decarbonised electricity system. We work with energy companies and corporate buyers to make energy data useful for better decisions and more credible clean-energy claims.

If you are excited by the idea of improving a real product while helping shape how hourly clean electricity is tracked, we would love to hear from you.
