About the Role:
ASafe General is looking for an experienced EHS manager for a major data centre campus construction project in Madrid, Spain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the project-wide H&S; Management Plan and strategy, driving a zero-harm culture across all contractors and subcontractors.
- Oversee day-to-day H&S; operations across the campus, including management and mentoring of site H&S; officers and advisors and leadership of multiple H&S; teams.
- Manage General Contractor and subcontractor H&S; compliance and stakeholder engagement across an international, multicultural workforce.
- Lead risk assessments, RAMS, inspections, audits, safety walks, emergency planning and response, and implementation of H&S; management systems.
- Ensure compliance with Spanish PRL legislation (including Ley 31/1995), EU Construction Site Directive 92/57/EEC, ISO 45001 and statutory requirements; coordinate with the CSS during design and construction, maintain legal records and liaise with Inspección de Trabajo and other authorities.
- Lead accident, incident and near-miss investigations, RCA and CAPA, maintain reporting records and RIDDOR-equivalent submissions, and report H&S; KPIs to senior leadership and the Project Director.
- Drive project H&S; performance, including zero LTI, 100% statutory inspection/audit compliance, 100% workforce induction, agreed near-miss targets and zero enforcement notices.
Key Qualifications:
- 5+ years' experience as a Senior Health & Safety Manager on large-scale Data Centre / Mission Critical construction projects.
- Valid Spanish Técnico Superior en Prevención de Riesgos Laborales (PRL) with Construction Safety specialisation under Real Decreto 39/1997, plus CSS and First Aid / Emergency Response certification.
- Fluent Spanish and English, with strong knowledge of Spanish PRL legislation, EU requirements and ISO 45001.
- Proven experience leading H&S; teams and managing contractors, subcontractors and multicultural construction teams, with strong RAMS, risk assessment, auditing and incident investigation experience.
- Strong Data Centre knowledge across HV safety, Civils/MEP, UPS, cooling, fire suppression, commissioning and Tier II–IV environments.
- NEBOSH International Diploma or equivalent is highly desirable; IOSH Chartered or Graduate membership is desirable. Proficiency in MS Office / H&S; management software required.
Important: The Spanish Técnico Superior en PRL qualification is mandatory. International qualifications must be officially recognised and validated by the relevant Spanish authority before appointment. Candidates without the required qualification will not be considered.
