About the Role
Flowtech Engineering Limited is seeking an experienced HVAC Commissioning Manager to join our team on an exciting project in Belgium.
This is a full-time / secondment opportunity for EU citizens, offering an attractive benefits package, including a rotation-based working schedule. The role provides an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile project within a dynamic and technically challenging environment.
The Commissioning Manager leads all water treatment and commissioning operations for HVAC systems across multiple projects and teams. Reporting to senior management, they will define flushing and commissioning strategies, oversee planning and delivery, ensure technical excellence and compliance with industry standards, manage staff performance and cultivate client relationships. This role blends technical leadership, project oversight and team management to deliver high-quality outcomes for complex mechanical systems installations.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning & Project Leadership
- Lead and develop the commissioning strategy for ongoing and future HVAC projects, aligning with client requirements and performance specifications.
- Plan commissioning activities, establish priorities, and allocate resources across multiple sites.
- Oversee sequencing and scheduling to ensure commissioning milestones are integrated with the overall project programme.
- Review and approve commissioning plans, procedures and documentation prior to deployment.
- Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with industry standards (e.g., CIBSE, BSRIA, ASHRAE),
project specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical leadership on complex issues relating to HVAC testing, balancing, functional performance, system integration and control logic.
- Monitor commissioning execution across projects to ensure consistency, accuracy and high quality of deliverables.
- Team Leadership & Management
- Lead and mentor commissioning supervisors, technicians and field staff, providing guidance, training and performance feedback.
- Champion a culture of safety, excellence and professionalism across field teams.
- Conduct performance reviews and set objectives in line with departmental standards.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary client interface for commissioning activities, ensuring clear communication and responsiveness to client needs.
- Attend project coordination meetings with clients, design teams, contractors and internal stakeholders.
- Represent Flowtech in technical discussions, commissioning strategy sessions, and problem-resolution forums.
- Reporting & Documentation
- Oversee preparation of commissioning reports, test certificates, performance verification documentation and handover packages.
- Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete and delivered in a timely manner.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce adherence to company safety policies, statutory site safety requirements and best-practice protocols.
- Ensure the safe use of commissioning tools, test equipment and chemical treatment products in flushing and water treatment activities.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience (typically 5+ years) in HVAC commissioning, testing & balancing and mechanical systems.
- Proven experience in senior technical leadership or management, supervising multiple teams.
- Strong understanding of HVAC design intent, control systems, functional performance testing and commissioning best practice.
- Demonstrable ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and control sequences.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead teams and engage with clients and stakeholders.
- Proficiency with commissioning documentation, test procedures and reporting protocols.
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
Required Skills
- Professional certifications in commissioning, mechanical services or project management (e.g., CxA, Certified HVAC Technician, PMP).
- Experience with cleanroom and critical environment commissioning.
- Health & safety accreditation (e.g., Safe Pass, Site Safety Management).
- Ability to manage budgets, resourcing and scheduling across multiple projects.
Preferred Skills
- Field and office-based leadership role with visits to project sites throughout Ireland and potentially Europe.
- Interaction with multidisciplinary project teams across technical, commercial and client organisations.
