Offer Description
We are currently seeking a PhD candidate to join the TuberculosisResearch Line of the Animal Health Program, based at IRTA-CReSA (Bellaterra, Barcelona). We are looking for candidates with a background in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Veterinary Medicine or other related life sciences disciplines, with good level of English to undertake a PhD thesis in our laboratory.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work in a high-quality research environment with state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced in vitro platforms and BSL-3 animal experimentation facilities and laboratories. The PhD project will contribute to research activities focused on the development and evaluation oftuberculosis vaccine candidates using in vitro platforms and large-animal models to assess immunogenicity and protective efficacy. It is a national research project funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI).
Key researchers for the position: Dr. Bernat Pérez de Val, Principal Investigator, Tuberculosis Research Line (Primary Supervisor).
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Contribute to the scientific and technical activities of the Tuberculosis Research Line,



conducted under appropriate biosafety conditions, including work in BSL-3 facilities after completion of the required training.
Coordinate and perform experimental work to achieve the milestones of the research project associated with the candidate's PhD.
Generate, analyse and interpret scientific data, and contribute to the research outputs of the group, including scientific publications.
Present research findings at internal seminars and at national and international scientific conferences.
Participate actively in scientific discussions, group meetings and collaborative research activities.
Foster teamwork and contribute to a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment.
A Master’s Degree in life sciences or a Degree in Veterinary Medicine.
Applicants must not already hold a doctoral degree (PhD)
Proficiency in English
Strong teamwork skills, ability to adapt to multidisciplinary environments and a focus on professional growth and development.
Laboratory experience in immunology, microbiology and/or molecular biology techniques
Experience with in vivo animal experimentation
Experience or willingness to work in BSL-3 facilities.
Knowledge of statistics and/or bioinformatics
Knowledge of Catalan and/or Spanish
Languages ENGLISH Level Good

Additional Information
Advantages of joining our team:
Contract: 4 years
First, second and third year of contract: 23.322,09€ gross per year
Fourth year of contract:



26.325,47€ gross per year
*Subject to the corresponding withholdings, pursuant to prevailing regulations, and to the collective employment agreement of IRTA
The doctoral grant provides up to 7.000€ in additional funding to cover:
Research stays of at least one month at other R&D; centres.
Tuition fees for the four years of the PhD programme.
37.5 hour workweek, with Friday afternoons off

Selected candidates must, at the time of signing the employment contract, provide documentation confirming either their admission to a doctoral programme or their enrolment in the programme.

Timings in the Recruitment Process
Curricular assessment: The candidate’s qualifications and merits will be evaluated according to the criteria established in the job offer.
Interview(s): These will be conducted by a Selection Committee to assess the candidate’s suitability in terms of professional experience and competencies.
Additional tests (if applicable): Depending on the position profile and the needs of the process, specific competency-based tests and/or a psychometric test may be included in order to more accurately assess the suitability of the candidates.
Start of contract: January 2027 (approximately)
The contract is part of project PID OR-I00, funded by MICIU/AEI/ / and by the European Social Fund Plus FSE+.
