Senior Data Engineer / Data Engineering Lead

Brussels, Belgium | Hybrid | Freelance / Contract

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer / Data Engineering Lead to join a large-scale enterprise data environment in Belgium.

You will play a key role in building and operating reliable, scalable and maintainable data platforms and pipelines, supporting analytics, reporting, data science and data-driven decision making.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop and maintain robust data pipelines and integrations between operational systems and analytics platforms.
- Build and maintain Data Lakes, Data Warehouses and Data Marts.
- Develop scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and incremental loading strategies.
- Implement data quality, validation, monitoring and observability mechanisms.
- Ensure production data solutions are reliable, secure, scalable and maintainable.
- Troubleshoot data issues, perform root-cause analysis and improve operational stability.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical data solutions.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, analysts and data teams.
- Define and promote data engineering standards, best practices and design patterns.
- Act as a technical reference for data engineering and coach/mentor other team members.

Requirements





- 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Strong Python development skills.
- Solid experience with Spark, Hive, Hadoop or similar big-data technologies.
- Strong experience with Azure and/or AWS data platforms.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, Data Factory or equivalent cloud data platforms.
- Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT and orchestration frameworks.
- Experience building and operating production-grade data pipelines.
- Experience with data quality, monitoring, observability and operational support.
- Understanding of CI/CD and DevOps principles applied to data platforms.
- Experience working in large enterprise environments with multiple stakeholders.
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
