About the Role Arturo Palomba Gallery LLC is seeking an experienced Exhibition & Spatial Design Director – Art & Fashion to conceive and lead exceptional physical environments for contemporary art, fashion and design projects.
Based in Barcelona, the successful candidate will transform galleries, temporary venues, showrooms and unconventional spaces into distinctive visual experiences.
The role sits at the intersection of contemporary art, spatial design, fashion, architecture and experiential creativity .
Key Responsibilities
- Develop spatial concepts for exhibitions, installations and special projects.
- Design innovative environments for contemporary artworks and artist-led projects.
- Create temporary spaces for fashion and design collaborations.
- Develop concepts for showrooms, presentations, pop-ups and cultural events.
- Collaborate directly with artists, architects, fashion designers and creative directors.
- Translate curatorial and creative concepts into physical environments.
- Develop exhibition layouts, visitor journeys and spatial narratives.
- Coordinate lighting, materials, furniture,
graphics and audiovisual elements.
- Supervise architects, fabricators, installers and specialist production teams.
- Manage spatial-design projects from concept through final installation.
- Develop projects connected with major art, fashion and design events.
- Explore innovative materials and sustainable production solutions.
- Coordinate budgets, production schedules and technical requirements.
- Represent the Gallery at international art, architecture, fashion and design events.

Requirements
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience
- Degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Spatial Design, Exhibition Design or a related discipline
- Strong portfolio of completed spatial or exhibition projects
- Proven experience delivering complex physical environments
- Excellent understanding of contemporary art, architecture, fashion and design
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary creative and technical teams
- Strong knowledge of materials, fabrication and installation processes
- Excellent visual and spatial judgement
- Strong project and budget management skills
- Professional working proficiency in English
- Spanish or Catalan is an advantage, but not mandatory
- Availability to work in Barcelona and travel internationally
Ideal Candidate We are looking for a professional who understands that an exhibition space is not simply a room in which artworks happen to be placed.
The ideal candidate can create memorable environments where architecture, artworks, light, materials and movement become part of a coherent experience.
They should be equally comfortable discussing an installation with an artist, reviewing technical drawings with an architect and supervising production on site.
