We are looking for an experienced and highly accomplished Senior Construction Manager to join our team in Spain and take a leading role in the construction execution of a large-scale renewable energy project in Mauritania .
The successful candidate will provide senior-level leadership throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring construction is delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual, technical, quality, and HSE requirements .
The position is based in Spain , with significant project assignments in Mauritania. The successful candidate must be willing to spend extended periods on site in Mauritania according to project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Leadership
- Take overall responsibility for construction execution throughout the project lifecycle, from mobilization and site preparation through installation, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Develop and implement construction strategies, methodologies, priorities, and execution plans.
- Lead multidisciplinary construction teams, including Construction Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, Supervisors, and subcontractors.
- Ensure construction activities comply with approved designs, specifications, method statements, procedures, and applicable standards.
- Support the Project Manager in resolving complex construction, technical, resource, and interface issues.
PV, BESS & Hybrid Construction
- Lead construction activities across Solar PV, BESS, and Hybrid Renewable Energy scopes , as applicable.
- Oversee PV works including mounting/tracking systems, modules, DC systems, inverters, MV systems, and balance-of-plant infrastructure.
- Oversee BESS works including battery systems, PCS, transformers, MV equipment, HVAC, fire protection, control systems, and associated infrastructure.
- Coordinate interfaces between PV, BESS, HV/MV, SCADA/EMS, civil, mechanical, and electrical systems .
- Provide construction input during design reviews and constructability assessments.
Planning, Schedule & Performance
- Develop and review construction execution plans and align activities with the approved baseline schedule and key milestones .
- Monitor progress, productivity, critical path activities, manpower, equipment, and construction KPIs.
- Identify potential delays and implement effective recovery and mitigation strategies.
- Monitor construction performance against budget, schedule, and project targets .
- Work closely with Project Controls and Commercial teams on cost, schedule impacts, forecasts, variations, and claims.
Subcontractor & Resource Management
- Lead the management and coordination of major construction subcontractors.
- Monitor subcontractor performance against scope, schedule, productivity, quality, HSE, and contractual requirements .
- Review subcontractor construction plans, manpower, equipment requirements, and methodologies.
- Lead performance and coordination meetings and implement corrective actions where required.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Logistics, and Warehouse teams to ensure timely availability of materials and equipment.
Engineering & Technical Coordination
- Coordinate with Engineering teams to resolve construction-related technical issues.
- Review drawings, technical specifications, method statements, RFIs, design changes, and site modifications.
- Manage interfaces between Engineering and Construction and ensure approved design changes are properly implemented on site.
- Support constructability reviews and provide practical construction input during the engineering phase.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Represent the Construction function in meetings with the client, owner's engineer, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders .
- Communicate construction progress, risks, constraints, and mitigation plans to the Project Manager and senior management.
- Support the Project Manager in resolving construction-related contractual and technical matters.
HSE, QA/QC & Risk Management
- Provide visible leadership in maintaining a strong HSE culture across the project.
- Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, project HSE plans, local regulations, and international standards.
- Work closely with HSE and QA/QC teams to manage construction risks, inspections, ITPs, non-conformities, and quality issues.
- Proactively identify construction risks, delays, resource constraints, logistics issues,
and project interfaces.
- Lead the development of mitigation and recovery strategies and ensure timely resolution of critical issues.
Commissioning & Close-Out
- Support mechanical completion, testing, commissioning, punch-list completion, and final project handover.
- Ensure construction records, as-built documentation, and other project deliverables are completed on time.
- Provide regular construction progress reports and recommendations to senior management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management , or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10+ years of construction management experience , with significant experience in utility-scale renewable energy projects .
- Proven track record managing large-scale Solar PV, BESS, or Hybrid Renewable Energy projects .
- Strong experience in EPC project execution and construction management .
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing major subcontractors.
- Strong understanding of civil, mechanical, electrical, MV/HV, and energy storage construction activities .
- Experience managing complex interfaces between disciplines, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of construction planning, scheduling, productivity monitoring, and project controls.
- Proven experience managing construction risks, delays, recovery plans, and complex site issues .
- Experience working directly with clients, consultants, owner's engineers, and major subcontractors .
- Strong understanding of HSE, QA/QC, ITPs, and international project standards .
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, method statements, and construction documentation.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and international environment .
- Willingness to undertake extended project assignments in Mauritania .
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office ; knowledge of Primavera P6, Power BI, or other project controls tools is an advantage.
- Fluency in English is required; Spanish and/or French would be an advantage.
- Based in Spain or willing to relocate to Spain.
