Senior Data Engineer - Madrid

Location: Madrid, Spain (5 days per week onsite)

Salary: Up to €120,000 - €140,000 per annum (depending on experience)

As we continue to expand our data capabilities, we are seeking experienced Senior Data Engineers to help architect, build, and scale robust data platforms that power mission-critical financial decision-making.

Role Overview

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable data architectures, optimising data pipelines, and ensuring high data quality and governance standards. You will work closely with quantitative analysts, data scientists, and financial consultants to deliver high-performance, secure, and reliable data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines
- Architect cloud-native and hybrid data platforms
- Build robust data models to support financial analytics and reporting
- Implement data governance, quality, and security best practices
- Optimise data storage and query performance




- Collaborate with stakeholders across risk, trading, compliance, and strategy teams
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership
- Ensure regulatory compliance standards are embedded within data systems

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree (BSc) from a Top 300 global university (QS/Times Higher Education ranking)
- 6+ years of professional experience in data engineering
- Strong proficiency in Python and/or Scala
- Advanced SQL expertise
- Hands-on experience with modern data stack technologies (e.G., Spark, Kafka, Airflow)
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modelling
- Experience working with large-scale financial datasets

Preferred Experience

- Background in financial services, asset management, or investment banking
- Experience with real-time data streaming architectures
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting frameworks (e.G., MiFID II, Basel III)
- Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps best practices
