Overview:

Totum is partnering with a leading law firm to recruit for their first Business Development & Marketing Project Manager in Brussels to serve as the strategic BD lead for their six-partner Antitrust/Competition practice in that office.

Working directly with partners and counsel, the Project Manager will drive the development and execution of the practice's business development strategy, with a particular focus on client development, targeting, cross-practice and cross-border opportunities, pitches and pursuits, market positioning and thought leadership.

The role will serve as a trusted adviser to the Brussels partners, combining a strong understanding of the European antitrust and competition landscape with commercial judgement, market intelligence and disciplined execution to identify opportunities, deepen client relationships and support the continued growth of the practice.

The Project Manager will work closely with the Assistant Director of Controversy for Europe (and also report into the Assistant Director) in London, the Assistant Director, Business Development (Antitrust/Competition) in New York, and BDM colleagues across the Firm to ensure the Brussels practice is fully integrated into global client, sector and practice initiatives.

Essential Functions:

The BD & Marketing Project Manager will work with a group of market-leading partners and counsel in the Brussels Antitrust/Competition practice, developing exceptional relationships to support them in the delivery of the BD and Marketing plan.

The key responsibilities of this role may include some or all of the following:

Practice/Sector Development and Business Planning:

- Act as a strategic business development adviser to the Brussels Antitrust and Competition partners, using a strong understanding of their practices, clients, targets and individual business development priorities to identify and advance opportunities for growth.
- Proactively look for opportunities to grow and diversify the practice offering, monitoring the market and competitors to ensure the practice stays ahead of the curve.
- Ensure the practice is visible and present in the markets and forums relevant to the Brussels antitrust and competition space.
- Create and deploy targeted "go-to-market" campaigns to pitch the firm’s FSR notifications, auditing, and compliance capabilities to non-EU sovereign wealth funds, state-backed enterprises, and multinational corporations.




- Drive forward BD partner pipelines to support partners on key clients and targets, actively pushing opportunities through the sales pipeline to convert into instructions and drive greater revenue.
- Be a vocal and active member of the BD and Marketing team, staying connected with activity across the firm and sharing best practice.
- Be an innovative thinker and opportunity spotter — bringing new ideas to the table to differentiate the practice in a competitive Brussels market.

Marketing:

- Design and deliver content-led, technical, peer-to-peer networking events, webinars and dinners which promote the Antitrust/Competition practice and the Brussels office capabilities.
- Stay abreast of speaking and engagement opportunities for partners, proactively identifying relevant conferences, panels and forums in the Brussels antitrust and competition space.
- Own and run the annual marketing and events calendar for the practice, ensuring a structured and strategic approach to external engagement throughout the year.
- Author strategic legal directory submissions to ensure the firm maintains its top-tier rankings in Antitrust and Regulatory fields, whilst working closely with the Recognitions team on strategy on return on investment from all marketing activities, measuring and reporting, while also using data to inform future marketing strategy and prioritisation.

Targeting, Pitching, Pursuits and Proposals:

- Identify opportunities to deepen and expand relationships with existing institutional clients, working across practices, offices and regions to increase the Firm’s share of client relationships.
- Provide focus to new client acquisition initiatives including identification of appropriate targets and ensuring action plans are in place.
- Lead on pitching opportunities to promote the practice to secure new mandates.
- Identify cross-practice opportunities especially with M&A;, Litigation, Regulatory and White Collar.
- Draft and prepare high-quality pitches and credentials documents, working closely with partners and the wider BDM team.
- Work closely with the Global Pursuits team,



collaborating on opportunities to bring innovative approaches to pitching.
- Develop a suite of materials to succinctly and visually sell the firm’s value proposition in the antitrust and competition space.
- Monitor and track practice credentials and ensure capabilities are presented externally to promote the offering.

Essential knowledge, skills, abilities and other job-related competencies:

- Deep understanding of the Brussels antitrust and competition landscape, including key regulatory bodies, market dynamics and industry players.
- Excellent knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques in BD and marketing for professional services.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams autonomously.
- Multi-skilled across the full BD and marketing mix — from pitching and proposals through to campaigns, events and content.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrates close attention to detail.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organisational and planning skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities.
- Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong ability to organise and prioritise work and work effectively independently.

- Proficient knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel,
- PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.
- Flexibility to travel on occasion.
- Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs.

Education and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Minimum of 4 years of related experience in Business Development & Marketing, ideally within a professional services or law firm environment.
- Experience in the antitrust and competition is highly desirable.
- Native or business-level fluency in written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in French, German, or Dutch would be an advantage.
