About the role
Our client is a leading European provider of market data and financial software, with 25+ years of experience serving financial market professionals. As they open a new Madrid office, they're growing their local team and looking for a Team Lead IT Operations to take charge of a small, hands-on infrastructure and operations team.
You'll inherit a running, established team, stepping in to get close to both the technology and the people, keeping operations running at a high standard while helping the team grow. The environment spans Linux and Windows, with hands-on Linux experience essential and Windows a strong plus. Cloud infrastructure runs primarily on AWS and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The team operates on-call coverage and works closely with a Germany-based operations team on shared technology and platforms.
What you'll do
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5 to 6 operations engineers, while remaining actively involved in the technical work
- Coordinate the team's on-call rotation and work with the German Operations team to ensure effective 24/7 coverage
- Act as the senior technical and operational escalation point for complex infrastructure and major production incidents
- Drive automation and standardization, reducing manual operational work through scripting, configuration management, and Infrastructure-as-Code
- Continuously improve monitoring, observability, and alerting across services and infrastructure
- Coordinate closely with the Germany-based Operations team on shared technology and cross-team alignment
- Own cloud infrastructure operations, with a strong focus on AWS and OCI
- Drive service delivery against SLAs/KPIs across incident, request, problem, and change management
- Use incident and operational data to identify recurring problems, improve reliability, and reduce operational toil. Maintain and improve documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures
- Champion compliance and security in daily operations: vulnerability management, incident response, business continuity, and disaster recovery
- Drive lifecycle management and migration of end-of-life infrastructure and operating systems onto supported platforms
- Build relationships with key stakeholders across IT, development, and the growing Information Security function
Who you are
- Strong hands-on experience in Linux environments; Windows experience is a plus
- Solid experience leading or coordinating an IT operations/infrastructure team in a hands-on, player-coach role, including troubleshooting complex Linux, cloud, container, and infrastructure issues alongside the team
- Good understanding of networking, operating systems, infrastructure, and production application dependencies
- Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS; OCI experience is a strong plus
- Practical experience operating containerized environments and Kubernetes, including troubleshooting workloads, deployments, and platform issues
- Strong automation mindset, with scripting and configuration/infrastructure automation experience using tools such as Bash, Python, Ansible, Puppet, and/or Terraform
- Experience with monitoring and observability across metrics, logs, alerting, and dashboards, using technologies such as Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, and Zabbix
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps ways of working
- Practical understanding of ITSM/ITIL practices, particularly incident, problem, and change management
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability, with a mentality to get things done and drive issues through to resolution
- Curiosity and a willingness to challenge existing approaches constructively
- Awareness of compliance and security obligations in an operational environment
- Fluent business English
What's on offer
- Salary: EUR 65,000 to 70,000 gross per year
- Private health insurance and employee assistance
- 25 days holiday per year
- Remote work: one day a week from home, with versátil hours where possible, plus up to four weeks per year working from a different location
- Learning and development support, ongoing conversations with your manager, and knowledge-sharing opportunities
