About Sovrano AI
Sovrano AI sells expert capacity. Frontier AI models are no longer limited by compute. They are limited by how much verifiable expert human judgment can be pointed at them, and Europe has the experts without having the companies that put them to work. We are building that layer.
Concretely: we recruit and verify domain experts through partner universities across Europe, then put them to work on the data that trains and evaluates frontier models. RLHF preference labelling, expert- written instruction data, multilingual and red-team evaluation, reasoning benchmark authoring, long-form review, and expert-demonstrated robotics data, delivered against our clients' quality rubrics and increasingly against our own. Our customers are frontier AI labs, robotics companies and enterprise AI teams.
They come to us because they cannot find enough real experts, they do not trust crowdsourced labels, and they need consistent quality at volume and in many languages.
Key Responsibilities
- The monthly close, end to end.
- Management accounts, budget against actuals, and the cash forecast the founders make decisions from.
- Two numbers reported weekly without being asked: cash on hand and days receivable.
- The finance side of anything that goes to an investor or a funder: the model behind a raise, the numbers in an investor update, grant and loan applications.
- Books and records that hold up to a diligence request.
- The payment operation itself. Find the manual steps, remove them, and choose what replaces the spreadsheet.
- The monthly payment run to our expert network, across every country we operate in, on time and correct.
- Accounts payable, and the discipline of knowing what we actually spend on what.
- Client invoicing and collections.
- Our external accountants and advisers.
You are their counterpart on everything finance, from invoice attribution through to statutory accounts and the Spanish tax calendar at year end.
Adecuado Qualifications
- 3+ years in finance inside a high-growth company, a startup, a fintech or a scale-up.
- 3+ years of hands-on accounting, closing months, reconciling, and defending a treatment.
- The two can overlap: what matters is that you have closed books rather than only reported on them.
- Practical experience with Spanish tax and statutory obligations, withholding on contractor invoices, VAT, and the monthly and quarterly filings, run alongside an external adviser.
- Professional English and Spanish.
- Based in Barcelona, on-site.
What Success Looks Like
- BY MONTH 3: You have run the close yourself and it lands on a fixed date. Cash on hand and days receivable go out weekly without anyone asking, and you have named the manual steps you want to remove first.
- BY MONTH 6: Days receivable down and holding. A cash forecast the founders use to make decisions rather than to check their own.
The manual steps you named are gone.
- BY MONTH 12: A finance function that would take twice the number of people paid without twice the work, a clean set of books that stands up to a diligence request, and a clear view on your first hire.
Nice to Have
- CPA, ACCA, ACA or the Spanish equivalent.
- Experience paying a large population of contractors or freelancers, not only employees.
- Having paid people in more than one country, through a contractor platform or otherwise.
- Having chosen and implemented a finance system rather than inheriting one.
- Building the model behind a fundraise, or preparing grant or loan applications.
- Experience at a company under thirty people, where finance was one person.
- A third European language.
