This is an unpaid, remote collaboration for Project Mercy, an independent dark science-fantasy roguelite currently in development at Memoria Works.
Our current goal is to build a high-quality playable demo that we can use to pursue external funding and investment for full development, with crowdfunding also being considered as an alternative route.
We are looking for a Lead / Senior Programmer with strong Unreal Engine 5 experience to help develop, structure and refine the technical foundation and gameplay systems of Project Mercy as we work towards the playable demo.
You will work closely with Design, Technical Art, Level Design, Animation, Production and other departments, helping turn the established vision for Project Mercy into robust, maintainable and scalable gameplay systems in Unreal Engine 5.
Our international team includes developers and artists with professional AAA and broader industry experience. The goal of the demo is to present a strong representation of Project Mercy and use it to pursue funding for full development.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the programming development of the playable demo in Unreal Engine 5.
- Implement and iterate on gameplay systems such as combat, movement, abilities, progression and interactions.
- Work with C++ and Blueprints to develop solid, maintainable and efficient solutions.
- Collaborate closely with Game Design, Technical Art, Level Design, Animation and Production.
- Identify and solve technical, performance and implementation issues.
- Help define the project’s technical architecture, standards and priorities.
- Provide technical support and guidance to other members of the Programming team.
Requirements
- Strong professional experience with Unreal Engine, ideally Unreal Engine 5.
- Strong knowledge of C++ and Blueprints within Unreal Engine.
- Experience developing gameplay systems for professional or commercial game projects.
- Good understanding of gameplay architecture, debugging, profiling and optimization.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and creative disciplines and communicate solutions clearly.
- Strong problem-solving skills, autonomy and ability to work effectively within a team.
Nice to have
- Previous Lead or Senior Programmer experience.
- AAA development experience.
- Experience with Gameplay Ability System (GAS) or other advanced Unreal Engine systems.
- Experience with combat, movement, AI, RPGs, roguelites or systems combining turn-based and real-time mechanics.
- Experience creating tools that allow designers to iterate efficiently.
