About the research group

The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is a leading research center located in the southern part of Barcelona. It brings together the biomedical research efforts of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona (UB) on the Bellvitge Campus. As of January 1st, 2020, IDIBELL has also integrated the Centre of Regenerative Medicine (CMRB).

IDIBELL’s primary research areas include cancer, neuroscience,



translational medicine, and regenerative medicine. With a strong emphasis on research, innovation, and societal impact, IDIBELL's mission is to enhance the quality of life for citizens.

As part of the CERCA institution of the Generalitat of Catalonia, IDIBELL has established itself as a nationally and internationally recognized leader in biomedical research. In 2009, it was among the first five Spanish research centers to be certified as a health research institute by the Carlos III Institute of Health. More recently, the European Commission awarded IDIBELL the HRS4R logo (Excellence in Human Resources in Research), recognizing its commitment to implementing the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment and Management of Researchers.
