This is an unpaid, remote collaboration for Project Mercy, an independent dark science-fantasy roguelite currently in development at Memoria Works .

Our current goal is to build a high-quality playable demo that we can use to pursue external funding and investment for full development , with crowdfunding also being considered as an alternative route.

We are looking for a Lead Environment Artist to help define and guide the visual development of Project Mercy's environments as we work towards a high-quality playable demo.

You will work closely with Environment Concept, Level Design, Technical Art, Lighting and Production, helping translate the established visual direction of Quenar Thelis into cohesive, production-ready 3D environments.

Our international team includes developers and artists with professional AAA and broader industry experience. The goal of the demo is to present a strong representation of Project Mercy and use it to pursue funding for full development.

- Work closely with concept artists and level designers to translate environment concepts and blockouts into finished 3D spaces.
- Help establish environment workflows, asset standards and production priorities.
- Create and/or oversee modular environment assets, architectural elements and set dressing.
- Collaborate with Technical Art, Materials and Lighting to achieve the intended visual quality in Unreal Engine 5.
- Review environment work and provide constructive feedback to other artists.

- Help identify technical or artistic blockers and work with the relevant departments to find practical solutions.
- Contribute to planning and scoping environment work around the needs of the demo.

Requirements

- Strong portfolio demonstrating professional-quality 3D environment art.
- Solid understanding of environment modelling, composition, modular workflows, texturing and optimisation.
- Experience working with Unreal Engine.
- Good understanding of real-time game production pipelines.
- Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate across multiple disciplines.
- Comfortable providing feedback and helping guide other environment artists.
- Able to work independently within a remote international team.
- Previous professional game development experience.

Nice to have

- Previous Lead or Senior Environment Artist experience.
- AAA development experience.
- Experience with Unreal Engine 5.
- Experience working on science-fiction, fantasy or stylised realistic environments.
- Knowledge of lighting, materials, procedural workflows or technical environment art.
