Delta Group is seeking a motivated and ambitious Cadet Engineer to join our Victorian Civil team working on a Project in Ballarat. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, project managers and site teams, gaining practical exposure to complex civil and infrastructure projects.
As a Cadet Engineer, you will be supported to develop your technical, commercial and project management skills while contributing to the successful delivery of projects.

Position duties and responsibilities:
The opportunity
Reporting to a Project Manager, you will assist the project team across all stages of project delivery. From planning and procurement through to site execution, cost control, quality and project close-out, you will gain broad exposure to the engineering and construction lifecycle. You will be required to work 2 - 3 days per week.
What you'll be doing
Working closely with our Project Managers and site teams, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the planning, delivery, monitoring and close-out of civil projects.
- Supporting project teams to deliver works in accordance with Delta Group's Project Delivery Process, budgets, contracts and client requirements.
- Monitoring project programs and assisting with project status reporting.
- Assisting with weekly project cost tracking and cost control reporting.
- Supporting work methodology and production cost analysis.
- Preparing and maintaining project documentation, including management plans, SWMS, permits and other QSE documentation.
- Preparing QA documentation, inspections and ITPs.
- Completing Take 5s and contributing to a strong safety culture.
- Maintaining accurate site diaries, including photographs and project records.
- Recording presente production rates and assisting with performance analysis.
- Assisting with procurement and subcontractor engagement processes.
- Obtaining and reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations and tenders.
- Assisting with the preparation and issue of scopes of work and subcontract documentation.
- Supporting the administration of subcontractor and supplier agreements.
- Reviewing and verifying subcontractor and supplier invoices.
- Assisting with contract administration, project claims and invoicing.
- Attending tender interviews and site inspections as required.
- Assisting with subcontractor tender evaluations and interviews.
- Ensuring relevant project documentation is available to supervisors, foremen, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, clients and project teams to support positive project outcomes and strong customer relationships.
- Identifying potential issues early and escalating them through the appropriate channels.
- Contributing ideas and supporting continuous improvement across project delivery.

Knowledge and skills:
What we're looking for To be successful in this role, you will be:
- Currently studying towards a Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Interested in developing a career in civil construction and project delivery
- Organised, detail-focused and capable of managing competing priorities.
- Comfortable working both in an office environment and on project sites.
- Computer literate, with strong typing accuracy and attention to detail.
- A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
- Keen to learn and take direction from experienced engineering and project professionals.
- Interested in developing your understanding of project management, risk management, cost control and commercial construction practices.
Previous construction or engineering experience is advantageous but not essential. We are looking for attitude, potential and a genuine desire to learn.
