Amentum, a general leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking aSite Safety and Health Officer (SSHO)to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.

Job Responsibilities

TheSite Safety and Health Officer (SSHO)is responsible for managing and enforcing the Contractor’s safety program, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and requirements as outlined in EM 385-1-1 Section 1 and29 CFR 1926.16. The SSHO also administers the government-accepted Accident Prevention Plan (APP). Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Serving as the onsiteSite Safety and Health Officerto implement and administer the Contractor’s safety program and the approved Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
- Being physically onsite at all times when work is being performed, ensuring safety requirements are adhered to in all operations.




- Providing oversight and managing a team of at least oneCompetent Personat each project site who is trained and qualified to function as the SSHO.
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations under29 CFR 1926.16, including site-specific requirements.
- Ensuring all safety protocols, programs, and best practices meet the standards set forth inEM 385-1-1 Section 1and its associated sub-paragraphs.
- Completing the OSHA 30-hour construction safety course or an equivalent program and ensuring competency through24 hours of formal safety and health trainingevery four years.
- Enforcing safety requirements on-site and ensuring compliance with applicable safety protocols and guidelines.
- Identifying hazardous conditions, implementing preventive measures, and providing regular training to workers and subcontractors regarding safety standards.
- Conducting regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with the Contractor’s safety program.
