The Role
The Sales Director is responsible for driving business growth across Flemish public sector organizations and private enterprises. The role focuses on strategic sales leadership, pipeline development, management of public procurement opportunities and framework agreements, consortium and partner engagement, client relationship management, and commercial excellence. The position plays a critical role in expanding market presence, securing new business, and strengthening long-term customer partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Pipeline Management
- Develop and execute the sales strategy for Flemish public sector and private sector accounts.
- Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities aligned with company growth objectives.
- Build, maintain, and manage a robust sales pipeline with accurate forecasting and reporting.
- Lead the end-to-end sales cycle, from opportunity identification through contract negotiation and closure.
- Ensure achievement of revenue, profitability, and growth targets.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and emerging opportunities.
Public Procurement & Framework Agreements
- Lead sales activities within public sector procurement environments.
- Identify and manage opportunities arising from public tenders, framework contracts, and procurement procedures.
- Coordinate bid and proposal activities to ensure compliant and competitive submissions.
- Develop and maintain strong knowledge of Belgian and Flemish public procurement regulations and processes.
- Maximize business opportunities through existing framework agreements and establish strategies for future framework participation.
- Collaborate with delivery, legal, and bid management teams throughout the tender lifecycle.
Consortium & Partner Management
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with consortium partners, subcontractors, and technology vendors.
- Identify and develop partnership opportunities that strengthen competitive positioning in public and private sector opportunities.
- Coordinate partner engagement during bid preparation and contract execution.
- Negotiate collaboration agreements and define partner roles and responsibilities.
- Foster strong and sustainable ecosystems to support long-term business growth.
- Represent the organization in partner meetings, industry events, and consortium discussions.
Client Relationship Management
- Develop trusted relationships with executives, procurement stakeholders, and key decision-makers across Flemish public and private sector organizations.
- Act as the primary commercial point of contact for strategic accounts.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and long-term account development.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling, upselling, and account expansion.
- Conduct regular business reviews and support strategic account planning.
- Maintain a deep understanding of client needs, business challenges, and priorities.
Leadership & Internal Management
- Provide leadership and direction to sales and account management teams where applicable.
- Collaborate closely with recruitment, delivery, operations, and management teams to ensure successful business outcomes.
- Drive a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and customer success.
- Support the development of sales processes, methodologies, and best practices.
- Mentor and coach team members to enhance commercial capabilities and market effectiveness.
- Contribute to strategic business planning and organizational growth initiatives.
Commercial Thinking
- Demonstrate a strong commercial mindset focused on sustainable revenue growth and profitability.
- Evaluate business opportunities based on strategic value, risk, competitiveness, and financial impact.
- Develop and execute account growth strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Understand market dynamics and translate customer needs into compelling value propositions.
- Lead commercial negotiations and contract discussions.
- Drive innovation in market approach, partnership development, and business expansion strategies.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 10 years of proven experience in a senior sales, business development, or account management leadership role.
- Strong track record of selling services and solutions into Flemish public sector organizations and private enterprises.
- Demonstrated experience with public procurement procedures, framework agreements, and tender management.
- Experience managing consortiums, strategic partnerships, and subcontractor relationships.
- Strong network within the Flemish public sector and/or private sector market.
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience leading complex sales pursuits and strategic account development initiatives.
- Fluent in Dutch and English; French is considered a strong advantage.
