The Opportunity

TRR is currently recruiting on behalf of a leading organisation in the energy sector for a mid-to-senior level Data Scientist / Data Engineer to join a data-focused technology team in Brussels.

This is a hands-on role combining data engineering, advanced analytics and AI-enabled data solutions. You will be responsible for developing scalable data pipelines and trusted datasets using Azure, Databricks, Python and SQL, while supporting analytical and business-critical use cases.

The idóneo candidate will have strong technical data engineering skills, alongside an interest or experience in data science, AI/ML and advanced analytics.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines across Azure and Databricks.
- Collect, transform and integrate data from multiple internal and external sources.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, traceability and governance across the data platform.
- Manage and optimise Azure Data Lake, Databricks workspaces and distributed data processing environments.
- Develop data models and analytical datasets to support scenario management, grid studies and business analytics.
- Support AI, Machine Learning and advanced analytics initiatives by providing trusted and well-governed datasets.
- Explore and implement AI-driven solutions to improve data quality, automate processes and support better decision-making.
- Implement monitoring, automation and performance optimisation across data workflows.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical and AI-enabled solutions.
- Develop dashboards, reporting solutions and KPI monitoring tools.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation using Markdown and Confluence.
- Contribute to collaborative software development practices,



code quality and knowledge sharing.

Essential Key Skills & Experience

- Strong professional experience as a Data Engineer, Data Scientist or similar data-focused role.
- Strong Python skills, particularly Pandas and/or Polars.
- Advanced SQL knowledge and experience working with data access frameworks.
- Strong experience with Azure data services.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks and/or PySpark.
- Experience designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines and data products.
- Good understanding of scalable and distributed data processing.
- Experience working with Azure Data Lake / ADLS or similar data lake technologies.
- Experience developing analytical datasets and data models.
- Experience with Power BI and/or Streamlit.
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative software development practices.
- Strong understanding of code quality, maintainability and documentation.
- Strong English communication skills.

Desirable

- Experience with R, particularly data.table.
- Advanced Excel and VBA skills.
- Experience with AI/ML concepts and AI-enabled data solutions.
- Previous experience within the energy, utilities, electricity or power systems sector.
- Experience with grid planning, grid studies or energy modelling.
- Knowledge of Dutch and/or French.
- Master's degree in IT, Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science or a related discipline.
