About the Role
As Senior Commissioning Editor, you will take responsibility for projects within a Portfolio, researching and developing differentiated concepts (in print and digital) and overseeing the commissioning of appropriate, profitable and high-quality ELT content. You will ensure projects are planned and resourced adequately.
You will identify authors and contributors, working with the Global Market Research team, key local markets and Global and Local Brand to develop strong concepts that showcase the Customer Value Proposition.
Through a matrix management structure, you will guide the in-house cross-functional or freelance team to develop quality material that meets market needs, produced to schedule and within budget. You will mentor and develop Commissioning Editors.
Using high levels of understanding of ELT products and markets, you will work with the Publisher to deliver a profitable business plan and research new publishing solutions with the Global Content and Methodologies team, proposing opportunistic products to grow the sub-segment (e.g., versions).
Reporting to the Portfolio Publisher,



collaboration is essential with the Content Development team, the Global Content and Methodologies team, Publishing Operations, Sales and Marketing, Digital Product and Procurement stakeholders.
This role is offered on a permanent full-time basis in our London or Madrid offices on a hybrid working model.
Role responsibilities
Segment strategy and publishing planning - Business Insights & Market Intelligence
Analyse competition strategy and look for publishing opportunities within the (sub) segment
Identify partnerships with General and Local Brand support, analysis and interpretation of data for Birthday review

Concept development - Global Perspective, Creating & Innovating
Develop strong differentiated concepts for projects from market research, and prepare teacher validation samples for agreed components
Identify authors/contributors and evaluate proposals for quality
Prepare business cases and oversee project scope with the Project Manager
Feed into platform and product needs in line with customer requirements

Content development - Editorial skills, Project Management, Balancing Stakeholders
Work with stakeholders to schedule and plan projects effectively
Oversee commissioning and briefing of authors and contributors in material development
Brief external content developers and packagers on project specifications, tasks and schedules
Collaborate across portfolios to identify opportunities for content reuse and co-creation




Negotiate with authors with the Publisher; manage contracts with legal where relevant
Understand digital requirements and feed into the digital roadmap as appropriate

Budget/Financial/Resource Responsibility - Analysis, Publishing Workflows & Systems
Understand the Investment Approval process and cost/schedule implications of publishing processes
With the Publisher, Project Manager and Content Development Manager ensure projects are resourced adequately for timely delivery
Track budget phasing with the Project Manager to maintain project integrity

Staff Management - Leading & Supervising, Communicates Effectively
Manage performance, training and development of Commissioning Editors; support matrix management of Content Development team
Delegate appropriately and monitor well-being and DEI issues relevant to staff
Recruit and induct new Commissioning Editors
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Essential
Knowledge of ELT markets, especially the Pre-Primary & Primary segments in Spain
ELT publishing experience at project leadership level with a proven track record
Solid experience in English language teaching and awareness of international teaching contexts
Excellent written English
Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage numerous tasks
Understanding of publishing technologies and willingness to learn new systems
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Working understanding of content management systems
A positive attitude and commitment to company aims
Excellent teamwork and organizational skills
Experience with a range of new media

Desirable
Knowledge of a second language desirable
