Biologist Intern (Species-Vision Detection) — Seraph, Canggu, Bali

Seraph — Real-world systems from one of nature's most versatile plants · Seraph · On-site, Canggu, Bali · 4–6 months · Spain or Melbourne as the track after

What does it take to teach a camera to read a living mat of lemna well enough to separate growth from stress — in real water, under real weather, without lab lights that cost more than the crop returns?

That is the question Seraph exists to answer. Seraph builds real-world systems from lemna, one of nature's most versatile plants — it cleans water, feeds livestock, and can be steered toward protein and energy pathways. This is a Biologist Intern working on the species-vision detection layer.

The work sits at TRL 3 — proof-of-concept, first pilot trials indoor and outdoor at controlled pH — backed by a 256-paper knowledge base across 31 research areas and a working detection system that reads a whole cultivation tray. Everyone has a degree. Almost nobody has proof.

You leave with the one proof employers hire on: a thing you built that nobody asked you to build.

What you build

You build the labeled lemna image set: whole-tray captures, pH and water-chemistry logs, growth-stage annotations, and real-weather failure cases. The detection loop that separates growth from stress — not just species and coverage — is on your bench. You run the bench experiments that tell the model what is actually true, feeding results back into the tray-reader. The validation notebook is on your hook: the record that shows why a reading is biological, not sensor drift.

The bar A labeled dataset built outside coursework, with the failure mode named — glare, waterline reflection, an algal bloom mistaken for growth. A bench experiment another person can run without you in the room. A biological reading you can defend at the bench, not just on a slide. The judgment to catch a false positive before it teaches the model the wrong thing.

Who this is for

Curious builders from biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, or data who understand that a young field rewards the ones who show up early and go deep. The safe, well-charted path is not where the interesting work is. You work until the bench and the model agree. A bad result here is data, not failure. You keep going until the reading is clean.

Where you do it — and why here

Thirty years building companies — New York, London, Tokyo, the Valley — and then it stopped mattering where the work happened. So the program runs on-site in Canggu, Bali. A modern company costs twelve people and a toolchain — so being wrong six times a year is part of how we build.

The campus is 4,000 sqm, and the people who run the companies are on it every day. What this location buys is attention, not a view. One cohort,

on-site, the full phase — not remote. Monday reset, Friday ship — show what you found.

What happens after

Seventeen interns have moved into full-time roles across the group — Bali, Spain, Germany. From here the path runs to a paid role at Seraph in Spain — Las Palmas, Canary Islands — or Melbourne. The role, visa, and pay are agreed before you commit, never after. Earned, not guaranteed; this is step one, not a seat handed to you.

Terms

Unpaid under Indonesian law. A room is available on campus — rent paid by you. Epic Solutions PT hosts the on-site program and assists with the C22B internship visa process; the visa fee is yours. Daily lunch on us. Starting September.

Questions about the fit or the timeline? Tell us — we'll talk you through how the program runs.

Requirements A degree in biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, or data — you have proven you can finish something. Not the ability to know things. The ability to learn things quickly. Something you built, ran, or discovered that nobody asked you to. You drive Claude Code, Hermes, or Codex every day and catch what the AI gets wrong. On-site for the full phase.

How to apply

Apply via the LinkedIn application field. Submit your CV and the repository, dataset, or lab notebook that shows your work.

A finished CV was never the point. What counts is a thing you've built and the drive to build the next one. That is who we are looking for.

Everyone has a degree. Almost nobody has proof.
