? Build the next version of Mapon
Mapon builds B2B SaaS for companies whose work happens in the physical world. Our platform helps businesses manage vehicles, drivers and equipment, improve safety, cut costs, automate operations and comply with transport regulations.
We started in Riga in 2006. Today more than 35,000 clients use Mapon, with over 400,000 connected devices on the platform. We have 200+ colleagues and 150+ partners worldwide. In 2025, Mapon grew revenue by 22.8% to EUR 24.2 million while remaining profitable. We have completed eight acquisitions and plan organic and M&A; growth.
We’re now hiring a CTO for Mapon's next growth phase.
This is not a maintenance role. The job is to modernize a mature, business-critical platform, build an engineering organization that scales beyond individual contributors and make technology a stronger driver of customer value and profitable growth.
Reporting to the CEO, you will change how Mapon makes technology decisions, builds software and develops technical leaders.
? Your mission
Build a scalable technology organization that executes Mapon's strategy with speed, quality and commercial discipline, without depending on a few people.
You will lead a 50+ person engineering organization across multiple teams and own Mapon's technology strategy, architecture, engineering effectiveness and platform evolution. You will partner with Product on what we build and why, and own how we build, operate and improve it.
⚙️ The challenges you’ll tackle The work is technically broad and commercially meaningful:
- A mature, multi-product SaaS platform that must be modernized while customers depend on it every day.
- High-volume, near-real-time telemetry from 400,000+ connected devices.
- APIs and integrations with customers, partners, vehicle manufacturers and hardware vendors, plus GPS devices, cameras and sensors operating in real-world conditions.
- European transport and driving-time rules, where correctness is part of the product.
- Private-cloud and on-premises infrastructure that must remain secure, observable, resilient and cost-effective while its future is evaluated pragmatically.
- Acquired products, systems and teams that need a clear integration or convergence path, and AI that can transform development and customer value.
You do not need every answer. You do need to make important trade-offs clear, decide with incomplete information and turn decisions into shipped outcomes.
? What you will own
Technology strategy and investment
- Translate company strategy into a clear, written technology strategy and investment priorities.
- Keep the roadmap dynamic and connected to customer value, revenue, risk and cost rather than treating it as a fixed multi-year plan.
- Make principled build, buy, partner, retire and migrate decisions while balancing delivery, platform work, reliability, security and technical debt.
- Shape technology OKRs and budgets with the executive team.
Engineering organization and leadership
- Lead Mapon's multi-team engineering organization through its leaders, not around them.
- Clarify ownership, decision rights and accountability across products, platforms and shared systems.
- Develop engineering leaders who make sound decisions without waiting for the CTO.
- Raise the bar for hiring, performance and succession while reducing key-person risk.
Architecture, platform and delivery
- Own the long-term technical direction across Mapon's products and shared platform.
- Guide modernization of a mature codebase without destabilizing the service or pausing customer delivery.
- Improve architectural consistency, delivery speed and predictability without adding ceremony that slows teams down.
- Ensure teams design for maintainability, scalability, reliability, security, performance and cost.
Reliability, security and operations
- Make observability, service ownership and operational excellence part of everyday engineering.
- Establish meaningful service levels and improve incident response and learning, with security and risk management built into engineering.
- Own evidence-based decisions about infrastructure and operational architecture.
AI and data
- Make AI-assisted development a normal part of engineering where it improves speed, quality or learning.
- Measure AI through cycle time, quality and customer impact, and build the foundations to use Mapon's data responsibly.
- Work with Product to validate AI-enabled customer opportunities with a credible path to commercial value.
M&A; and executive leadership
- Lead technology due diligence and post-acquisition technical integration planning.
- Decide when acquired products should remain independent, integrate with Mapon or converge over time.
- Represent technology to executives, the board, strategic customers and partners with clarity about options, economics and risk.
- Be a direct, constructive partner to the CEO and executive team.
? What success looks like after 12 months
- Mapon has a technology strategy understood across the company, tied to business priorities and reflected in team decisions.
- Critical product and platform areas have clear owners; senior leaders operate independently and key-person dependencies are reduced.
- Delivery, quality and reliability show measurable improvement, while priority modernization produces shipped results and enables greater team autonomy.
- AI-assisted engineering is standard practice where it works, with measurable gains and quality safeguards.
- Mapon has a repeatable acquisition-integration playbook, and technology investment is discussed through customer value, growth, cost and risk.
? What we are looking for
We care more about the complexity and change you have led than your exact title or team size.
You are likely to be a strong fit if you have:
- Led a multi-team engineering organization in commercial B2B SaaS through growth, modernization or organizational change.
- Built and coached managers and senior technical leaders rather than keeping all important decisions yourself.
- Strong architectural judgment across data-intensive systems, APIs, integrations and reliable production services.
- Been accountable for production systems, including availability, observability, incident response, security and technical risk.
- Made technology portfolio decisions with commercial judgment, including when to invest, simplify, buy, migrate or stop.
- Worked as a real partner to Product, sharing accountability for customer and business outcomes.
- Communicated effectively with executives, boards, enterprise customers and senior engineers.
- Enough technical depth to challenge a design, interrogate an incident and earn engineers’ credibility without becoming the principal individual contributor.
- Fluent English, as the role works across multiple European countries.
Strong advantages include experience with:
- IoT, M2M, telematics, hardware-connected software or distributed systems interacting with physical assets.
- High-volume telemetry, event processing, analytics or data platforms.
- Transport, logistics, fleet management or regulated software.
- Private-cloud, on-premises or hybrid infrastructure.
- Technical due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
- Introducing AI-assisted engineering at organizational scale or building commercial AI/data products.
Fleet-management experience is useful but not required. We prefer an exceptional technology leader who learns quickly to a domain expert unable to lead transformation.
✅ How you operate
- You create clarity and make decisions without waiting for perfect information.
- You combine urgency with judgment. Speed and quality are a managed trade-off.
- You tell the truth early, especially when the news is uncomfortable.
- You delegate outcomes and develop people while staying close enough to know what is happening.
- You are commercially curious and want to understand the customer, the economics and why the work matters.
- You have low ego, high standards and high ownership.
- You challenge constructively and change your mind when the evidence changes.
This role will not suit a chief architect in disguise, someone who adds process before understanding the problem or treats AI as innovation theatre.
? Compensation
We offer a competitive base salary depending on experience and expected impact. The package also includes a long-term, performance-based incentive tied to company results. We will explain its structure, measures and potential value during the recruitment process.
? Additionally, we offer:
? ♀️ Versátil hybrid work: work from home or our Barcelona office, with work mainly organized from the office.
? Pet-friendly office in Poblenou, with free coffee and fruit.
? Betterfly allowance for meals, public transport or childcare, plus health insurance and gym membership.
? Health Days when you are not feeling well, without needing a sick-leave certificate.
? An extra day off on your birthday.
? Annual learning budget for seminars, books and other professional development.
? Access to paid AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini when needed.
? The equipment you need, social and team-building events, and a supportive culture.
? A friendly team and a well-planned onboarding process from day one.
? Hiring process
- CV review by HR and the Hiring Manager (CEO).
- Pre-recorded Testlify video interview, completed at a time that suits you.
- On-site interview with the Hiring Manager and HR, up to 60 minutes.
- Background check and references from previous employers.
Additional meetings with relevant stakeholders may be added during the process.
