Project description
The Biomedical Electronics Research Group (BERG) at Universitat Pompeu Fabra is a research team who has been awarded the European Innovation Council (EIC) Transition grant for the project FORESEE. The project is meant to develop and validate an innovative microsensing platform for remote monitoring of heart failure patients. The platform consists of a sensor embedded in an active implantable medical device and a portable external system to wirelessly power and communicate with it.
Line of research: Active implantable medical devices - Biomedical Engineering
Tasks to be performed
Scientific-technical activities and scientific-technical management related to the activities of the FORESEE project, including:
- Prototyping: CAD design (Fusion 360/FreeCAD), 3D printing with filament and resin.
- Development of computational simulations (finite element methods, SPICE) related to the project and analysis of results (e.g., Ansys fluid, COMSOL Multiphysics).
- Development of test benches, including the use of agar phantoms for in vitro validation.
- Manufacturing activities: Laser welding, soldering of miniature prototypes
- Use of electronic equipment, including oscilloscope, function generator, and amplifiers.
- Use of MATLAB, C++ and Python.
- Contact with suppliers and manufacturers of parts of implantable devices.
- Search and analysis of devices made by competing companies, and tracking of components they use.
- Preparation and participation in discussions with stakeholders about injectable technology.
- Participation in pre-clinical studies, including bench testing and animal experiments.
- Drafting of documentation.
The duration of these tasks is estimated over a period of 9 months.
Group and complement: Group 3 + level u-q based on experience and skills.
Dedication and working hours: Full time (35 h/week).
Planned remuneration approx: 29.979,98€ - 30.936,02€ gross per year based on your experience and skills.
Financing fund: EC-HEu-101136633-EIT-FORESEE Novel microsensing platform for remote patient monitoring (Grant 101136633 funded by the European Union).
Requirements
- Batxillerat/FP2
The expected start date is July 13th , 2026, the job is in Barcelona.
Selection criteria: The selection of the candidates will be made through evaluation of the curriculum and, where appropriate, with the carrying out a test and/or interview. Valuation will be as follows:
1- Academic Training (0-30 points).
● BSc. Biomedical Engineering
2- Other professional training and experience, adequacy to the proposed profile (0-50 points):
● Experience in supporting research activities.
● Experience on finite element method and SPICE simulations.
● Good communication skills.
● Experience in laboratory activities, including assembly of small parts or implantable systems (e.g., laser welding, prototyping with 3D printer).
● Experience in searching for materials and literature review.
● Programming experience (e.g., Arduino, C, C++, C#).
3- Other merits (0-20 points):
● Languages: English, Spanish (Catalan will be considered very positively)
The minimum score to pass the selection process is 85 points. The candidate with the highest score in the selection process will be offered the job.
