NISH Tech BV is supporting Belgian clients, a leading European transmission system operator responsible for ensuring a reliable and sustainable electricity supply.
About the Role
We are looking for a Technical Designer – Substation (SUB) to support high-voltage infrastructure projects. You will prepare technical drawings, plans, and supporting documentation during the preliminary and study phases of new high-voltage installations and modifications to existing installations.
You will work closely with Project Leaders, Project Engineers, designers, and external engineering partners, while coordinating interfaces with related disciplines such as Powerlinks and Civil Works.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Project Engineer with feasibility studies and preliminary studies.
- Independently execute design studies according to project requirements.
- Prepare all plans and documentation required for successful project execution.
- Apply problem-solving and proactive approaches to technical design challenges.
- Ensure design quality by using approved equipment and following applicable standards, methodologies, and client requirements.
- Ensure consistency and coordination between your design and other engineering disciplines.
- Prepare and manage your own study planning based on the team's project schedule.
- Report progress and technical matters to the Team Manager and Project Manager.
- Work closely with Project Leaders, Project Engineers, and fellow designers.
- Provide ad-hoc technical support during execution works.
- Collaborate with external engineering/study offices and monitor the quality of their deliverables.
- Perform quality checks on studies prepared by other designers.
- Support the training and onboarding of new colleagues.
- Participate in working groups and contribute ideas for process improvement.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience in technical design, engineering, electrical engineering, electromechanical engineering, automation, construction, or a related technical field.
- Practical experience with 3D CAD software.
- Basic knowledge of electricity.
- Ability to interpret and prepare technical drawings.
- Experience working in a technical/project environment is preferred.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Specific Substation Design Responsibilities
- Prepare permit/authorization drawings required for regulatory applications.
- Prepare execution drawings, including:
- Layout plans
- Equipment plans
- Steel-structure plans
- Prepare supporting technical documentation,
including:
- Drawing lists
- Terminal/clamp lists
- Steel construction lists
- Depending on experience, take responsibility for these activities independently or with guidance.
