What to Expect
This role involves leading the definition, development and validation of Driveability programs in McLaren vehicles, with a focus on transmission. The role involves the definition, planning, testing, tuning and validation of the driveability calibration to deliver the high-level vehicle characteristics targets. The Senior Driveability Engineer is responsible for delivering the driveability vehicle attributes, following Lead directions.
What You'll Do
- Responsible for the development of driveability calibrations for a specific McLaren application.
- Lead the integration of the software development for driveability functions inside engine and gearbox control unit.
- Define the future driveability features and develop them from scratch to production.
- Improve the architecture interface between engine, gearbox and hybrid system.
- Work in close collaboration with the Powertrain and Vehicle development departments
- Model and simulate “virtual” vehicle to ensure targets are correctly defined and hardware and software specification can deliver them.
- Define and carry out vehicle testing plan to tune/calibrate driveability systems on the vehicle.
- Define and lead all tuning activities related to the above-mentioned systems.
- Understand and resolve issues that arise during development process.
- Tracking and reporting on vehicle project status.
- Coordinate and manage integration in multi-department activities that affect the driveability attribute.
- Support travelling for high level meetings, program updates and testing as required.
- Define,
develop and complete Data logging, Calibration, Objective manoeuvres and subjective vehicle evaluation.
- Write documentation and procedure useful build the knowledge for the future for a better driveability development.
- Share with the team and standardize the tools and instruments created to support the calibration
What You'll Bring
- Proven record of defining, developing, and delivering driveability attribute for other OEM. Good amount of automotive product development experience
- Excellent knowledge of internal combustion engines, hybrid systems and dual clutch transmission technologies. Proven record of having previously delivered a complete program within the industry.
- Good level of knowledge of the Etas, Vector, MathWorks software like Inca, Canape, Matlab Simulink
- Strong interpersonal and team-working skills, as well as a high affinity for tracking suppliers and delivering first-quality products
- Proven records of following automotive or motorsport testing plans.
- Good knowledge of validation, verification and testing process.
- Good knowledge of data logging and calibration systems.
- Good knowledge of objective manoeuvres driving and subjective vehicle evaluation.
- Model based controls application/development would be positively considered.
Education:
- Mechanical, Electronics, Physics or Automotive Engineering Degree
- Master or PHD in Physics or Engineering will be advantageous
- High competency in oral and written English language
