About the Role
Straumann Group is looking for a Junior Software & CAD Library Engineer to join our team in Madrid.
This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career software engineer or technical specialist who wants to combine software development, automation, 3D data, and dental CAD technology. The main objective of the role is to reduce manual work by automating the creation, validation, and maintenance of dental CAD libraries.
You will be based in Madrid, working closely with local Scrum teams that create and use the library outputs, catalogues, and related files. You will also maintain a strong functional connection with the engineering team in Munich, Germany, and will be onboarded there.
Your Responsibilities
The position covers two main areas of responsibility.
1. Dental CAD Library Development and Maintenance
You will support the creation, maintenance, testing, and release of dental CAD software libraries for platforms such as 3Shape and exocad.
- Creating and maintaining dental CAD libraries and technical datasets
- Working with 3D objects, mesh geometries, XML structures, and product configuration data
- Supporting the integration of Straumann products into third-party dental CAD software
- Testing and validating new or modified library content
- Preparing technical documentation and supporting review and release processes
- Collaborating with dental application, engineering, and software teams
2. Automation and Software Development
A key focus of the role is to automate manual CAD library and data-preparation activities.
- Analyse manual processes and identify automation opportunities
- Develop scripts and software tools for data transformation, validation, and quality checks
- Support automation of XML processing and 3D-data workflows
- Develop smaller software solutions independently and collaborate with internal software teams on larger initiatives
- Contribute to requirements, testing, documentation, and deployment of automation solutions
- Work closely with the Madrid Scrum teams and engineering colleagues in Munich
Your Profile
We are looking for a motivated career starter who enjoys solving technical problems and learning across disciplines.
You ideally bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a comparable technical field
- Initial programming experience, gained through studies, projects, internships, or first professional experience
- Experience with at least one programming or scripting language
- Understanding of structured data, databases, XML, or similar formats
- Strong interest in software automation, digital technologies, and technical problem-solving
- Interest in 3D objects, geometries, or mesh data
- A structured, quality-oriented working style
- Good communication skills and enthusiasm for working in an international environment
- Professional proficiency in English; German language skills are an advantage
Experience with CAD systems, 3D software, mesh processing, APIs, data transformation, or automation is an advantage, but not essential for candidates with a strong technical foundation and willingness to learn.
Dental and CAD Experience:
Experience in dentistry, dental technology, dental CAD/CAM, medical devices, or dental application technology is beneficial but not required.
Candidates with a software or engineering background and an interest in learning about digital dentistry are encouraged to apply. Experience with 3Shape, exocad, or similar CAD platforms is an advantage.
What Makes This Role Interesting
This role offers the opportunity to be an early contributor to the automation of dental CAD library processes. You will gain hands-on experience with real 3D dental data while working with local Scrum teams and international engineering colleagues.
Over time, the role can develop toward greater responsibility in software automation, data engineering, and general platform integration.
Hybrid work arrangement: three days per week in our Madrid office and two days remote. Please note, this on-site schedule is a mandatory requirement.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability.
