Our client is an international, fast-growing direct-to-consumer company undergoing a major Digital & AI transformation. They are building a brand-new Digital & AI division focused on creating next-generation customer experiences across web and mobile platforms.
The engineering organization operates as a small, high-impact, agentic-native team, where AI-powered workflows are embedded into every stage of software development.

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer – Backend & Data to become one of the key technical contributors within the Digital & AI organization.
This person will own the backend and data layer of a new customer-facing application, designing and building scalable backend services, APIs, data pipelines and cloud-native infrastructure that will support future AI and Machine Learning capabilities.
This is a highly hands-on engineering role where the majority of the time will be spent designing, building and delivering production software.

Backend Engineering

· Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.




· Own services from design through deployment and production support.
· Ensure high standards of performance, scalability, reliability and security.
~ Data Engineering

· Design and build data pipelines, event streams and analytical data platforms.
· Develop cloud-native data infrastructure using AWS and/or GCP.
· Build streaming solutions using technologies such as Kafka or Kinesis.
· Create the data foundations required for AI and Machine Learning initiatives.
~ Agentic AI Engineering

· Use agentic AI workflows as part of the daily software development lifecycle.
· Contribute to improving AI-assisted engineering processes.
· Help define quality standards and guardrails for AI-generated development.
· Promote efficient and secure AI-enabled engineering practices.
~ Work closely with architects, frontend engineers, product managers, designers and data scientists.
